What's this Teklok thing I keep hearing about? I assume it's a belt attachment for holsters and sheaths; how does it hold up in the field?

Skunk,
The TEKLOK was developed by Time Wegner of BLADETECH and customer knifemaker/designer Bob Terzuola[probally the ORIGINAL tactical folder maker]. It is a means of attaching gear, primarily kydex sheaths and holsters, to belts and webbing.

It is VERY durable....I remember 1 test Bob T put it through .......he towed a full size Suburban with it. It fits belts from a standard mil spec pistol belt[2.25"] down to 1.125". Easy on, easy off.

Here is a pick of one of our Terzuola Designed CUDA CQB1's, featuring a BLAFETECH built kydex sheath with a TEKLOK, all standard.....

:scrutiny: Very TACTICAL;)

I love it, lets me unholster without unthreading my belt. It also has an adjustable slide block so you can perfectly match your belt's width. Real world is so far, so good.

it also allows you to change the same sheath to a horizontal carry or to change the cant of the sheath.

For holsters, will it let me switch from FBI to crossdraw?

I have a TekLok on my double-mag carrier. It is very well designed, definitely ingenious, and works great. It allows me to rotate my carrier from horizontal to vertical, or remove it entirely without stripping everything off the belt. I definitely recommend the TekLok, especially if you have to remove your gear a lot....like moving it from a LBE to a belt to a dresser drawer.

I just wish the carrier itself was built as well as the TekLok.

So is the TekLok something I can adapt to existing Kydex sheaths and holsters without much effort?

I hate sheaths that are Kydex, but with the webbing belt loop rivetted on at the top. I'd really prefer to drill out the rivets, remove the webbing, and add something like the TekLok.

What about the Fobus Roto-Holsters? I wonder if I could use the TL on one of those??

Skunk, you ask about the neatest stuff!

As I understand it, Blade-Tech will sell Tek-Loks singly. They are drilled for attaching pretty much anything to them, and could probably be adapted to whatever you're going to use them for.

The TekLok fastens to the sheath/holster with t-nuts and short screws. The t-nut requires recessing into the sheath/holster so that it doesn't scrape enclosed tool. You would also need to make sure your sheath/holster is wide enough to mount the teklok to it using the pre-drilled holes in the teklok.

I wouldn't bother trying to put a teklok on a fobus holster. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

If you want a good kydex holster, go to Uncle-Mike's and buy. Tenfold better than fobus for the same price.

I use a Teklok to fasten my Izula to the left side of my belt for a horizontal carry.
