What would lend itself best for driving, convenience, ease of draw, concealment (when getting out of vehicle)?

You know, I've never really had a problem with drawing from my usual 4:00 holster while seated in The Civic of Doom.
Best advice - beg, borrow, or steal several holsters and try everything.

I'm going to throw one of those Fobus Roto-Tilts in my M-B this summer. Imagine the cool looks I'll get when I trade it in! :D

After much experimentation I finally settled on a Bianchi vertical shoulder holster. It fits all of my pistols well, but was really meant for large frame handguns. In other words I can use my Sig 239 with it but it's sort of too much hoster for the gun.
While driving it keeps the pistol in a great position for draw. I found it takes no more time to draw than usual, and as a righty the seat belt doesn't interfere. On the down side it's impossible to reholster with one hand, requiring the vehicle to be stopped to do so.

A couple of holster makers make a cross draw expressly for use in the car. It snaps to your belt and allows access to your pistol. Its not meant for normal carry though and your gun goes back in its regular holster before you get out. I dont remember who the makers are, but I have seen more than one offer them.

one of the few real uses for the fobus roto-paddle would be as a driving holster.
1. the variable cant is ideally suited to driving because it adjust to match your driving posture and build.
2. the paddle makes it a easy slip-on in the vehicle
3. the retention level is more than other purpose built "driving holsters"
4. the cost won't break the bank for a "limited use" holster

The same horizontal shoulder rig I wear most of the time is the only rig I wear when I drive/travel, because of the clean, fast, one-handed draw it effects. I don't have any experience with cross-draw rigs, though.
If you decide to go with such a rig, be sure it's broken in perfectly, and that the straps don't/won't shift much (if any) on the draw.

I use a Galco fanny pack--put the lapbelt under the fanny pack and you have pretty quick yet discrete access while driving. Also have an Uncle Mikes kydex paddle holster that is set for crossdraw. Keep it under the seat and it holds pretty much any of the SIG models securely.

You can always just stuff you back up, cross draw, in your waistband "mexican" style while driving. Works for me. If you wear a seat belt, its hard, if not impossible to get to that .45 at 4 o'clock. Not fast, or with one hand.

I like a shoulder holster if I'm going to be in the car a while.

Mitch Rosen produces a holster especially forthis. It's the "traverse" model I believe. I have a few of his pieces and will buy more. they are top quality and have excellant craftmanship. May cost more than the mass-produced stuff @ your local shop, but well worth th $ for individually hand honed leather.

Generally I too would favor a sho rig ...... my fave for the P95 is my Bianchi front break - very quick.. That tho is more or less ''winter only'' .... now and until too hot it's Fobus and same gun .. 4 o'clock ..... not so easy for draw but .... bearable.
Soon as hot'n'sweaty .. it'll be Snubby at 4 o'clock .. still reachable. Last resort when near nekkid .... fanny pack and a 22 semi ... this will become a P32 tho hopefully, this year. NOT such a good draw at all!:(

I really like paddle holsters but they don't work for me when I am driving. For me, NOTHING beats a shoulder rig for driving. -Very comfortable. Easy to draw. Only problem is concealment in hot weather.

I have my Glock 17 on my hip in case I have to get out of the car. I keep my 1911A1 in a holster stuck between the driver's seat and the middle seat.

I like stashing a gun inside a folded newspaper on the passenger seat.:p

I have both a double shoulder rig and strong side cross draw for driving....the shoulder is the most comfy....even the best cross draws will get in the way upon exiting the vehicle.
But for HOURRRRSSSSS of driving....Ill stick my PCR in a pocket rig between my seats......fast access and no weight on the back/shoulders......
As a rule you can also make 4Ock a viable option if you move everything out of the way for good access....

Skunky, as always, pluses and minuses to all. I do not vary equipment and use software, not hardware, for the applications you seek.
Chris is right. Try everything and see what you like. Then go to skul.

Galco's open top crossdraw rig is excellant for driving. Admittidly, I dont use it much, easier to just slip the pistol under my thigh and return it to the 4O'clk holster when exiting the vehicle.
Tactical thigh holsters are the best I've found for vehicle use, IME. But I was security guarding and could get away with it without alarming the sheeple when I exited the car b/c I was uniformed.

I've thought about it a great deal, and just decided to stick with my normal carry method. Chances are if I have the time to draw, I have the time to escape in my car.
I thought about having a cheap gun and holster for dedicated car use, but I don't like the idea of having a loaded gun in my car whenever I'm not there. Or if I did get car jacked, I just gave the guy a free car AND gun.
The one time I almost had to draw I was in my car, with the threat's truck blocking my front and other cars blocking my rear. When he stepped out of his truck towards me, I had time to unbuckle my seatbelt and have my hand on the grip. I beleive he saw this and changed his mind.

This is the ONLY use I have for the Fobus Roto-Holster I bought.
I set it on about a 50 degree cant and wear it at 3:30 and I'm set for the 4 hour weekly commute.

For me, an IWB holster carried at 3:30. You have to practice, of course.
