My neighbor has a Marlin Guide gun he's lending me. It's got a peep sight (looks like a Williams) that sits really high. I asked about it and he said he'd changed the front sight to one with fiber optics. The fiber broke off and I can't get it out, which makes the front sight almost useless. I've soldered a ball of solder on it to get it a bead that is visible. I had to use my kitchen gas range to do the solder, not pretty but it did improve it a lot.
My long term fix is to replace the front sight with something from Marbles with a gold bead, and ideally lower the peep sight in the rear down so that it's closer to the receiver. I think to do that I have to get a front sight that is shorter (the current one is pretty tall) - because if I lower the rear sight (which moves bullet impact lower) I'd need to lower the front (which moves bullet impact up) to keep things copasetic. Is this correct?
Lastly - does anyone know the base dimensions on a guide gun front sight?
thanks...
