S&W Model 22 .45ACP revolver and guess what my s/n is?

I have wanted this revolver since S&W released it for sale about two weeks ago. So I ask my FLD to BOLO for one. For about ten days nothing happened. I figure that the short run of 300 units was probably going to mean I wouldn't see one. But if he finds one, I'm gonna be all over it. (S&W set aside a special s/n run starting with TRR0001 thru TRR0300.)

Today he calls me. He's got a distributor on the line with a few Model 22s in stock. Just for the hell of it I ask what s/n's they have. "They have number 17... number 22..."

I don't remember if he said anything else at that point. All I was thinking was "How in the heck could the Model 22 #22 be there for the asking?"

I paid $25 extra to guarantee the hand-selected serial numbered gun and it will be here before Thanksgiving.

Now I'm going to own a gun I intend(ed) to shoot with a pretty unique serial number. What would you do, shoot it and try to wear it out like I want to; or hang on to it unfired?

as long as you are going to take care of the gun , I would say shoot it
I believe all guns are test fired anyway so why should you not check it out for yourself. As long as its in great condition it will hold its value.

I would ask myself is this for resale or for me to enjoy.

After you finish drooling over it, please measure the cylinder throats. I have a Model 25-2 that has .456" cylinder throats. It shoots well, but I am still tempted to send it to the factory for a new cylinder with .451 to .452" throats, since they are again making a blued .45 ACP revolver.

Very cool! I tried to track that one down. That's a lucky find. I would buy another for shooting if I were you.

I ended up with number 007.

I also have TRR0021. It is new in box, and is for sale. If interested, shoot me an email.

In 20 years or so it will likely command a premium from collectors if in pristine condition. Will it be woerth enough to justify keeping it as an investment? Unlikely, as guns afre rarely good investments. They take too long to appreciate.

If you want to make money buy into the stock market. Guns are for shooting.

If I had #22 I would buy another to shoot then wait one year and offer #22 at auction starting at twice what I paid for it. If it didn't sell I would shoot it and sell the other one. I'm too old to worry about what it will be worth in 2025. If I can't turn a quick profit right away then the Hell with it.
