Getting back into things...

I have been asbent from this forum for quite some time. My cable provider switched around my tv channels, and I accidentally stumbled onto OLN. Ted Nugent has a show out that got me back into hunting again. I have a friend interested in hunting, and our plan is to do small game, deer, and turkey hunting this season. I just got back from Wal-Mart with a few bags of hunting goods, and I am picking up my license next week. I have pulled all my other gear out of storage and I have already started packing. I dusted off my deer hunting books, and refreshed my mind and read the latest copy of state regulations cover to cover. I have all my plans figured out 95% of the way, but I do have one question...
Scent wise...is it ok to eat while you are at your spot, or should you go back to the truck to eat anything? Are there certain foods to focus on or aviod while hunting? What do you guys take to eat while on the hunt, and where do you eat? (ok...that was three questions, but all related.)

I'll eat fruits/veg in the stand. A few years ago I ate an apple and dropped the core from my climber, a doe walked up and ate it 10 min. later!

I usually take snacks with me for in the stand.
Granola bars, cookies, crackers and such.

i don't get too worked up over scents... i do get very worked up if i have to leave the field.
so... i either don't eat, or i'll eat while i'm out.
was sitting w/ my partner this year, watching deer run around, waited for him to finish his cigarette, then he killed his first ever mule buck, and followed that up w/ his first ever prairie whitetail... then, after he finished another smoke, i killed my best prairie whitetail to date...
yeah, i think the scent stuff is overrated...

fruit I've dried myself- I suck on it like jerky and make it last.
unsalted raw nuts. sometimes combined with dried fruit in my homemade trail mix.
NEVER eat anything in a crackly noisy wrapper.

Dropped my half finished cigarette, shuffled my foot to mash it out in the wet leaves. Pulled the pistol out of the shoulder holster, shot a Blacktail buck at 10 paces.
NO, that is not the norm. But is true. He was noisy. The wind was right. I was in dense cover.
I eat, even from noisy wrapped granola bars. But I am chosey where and when. If I'm still-hunting, I don't make any unnecessary noises. NONE. If I can reach in my pocket for a piece of jerky, quietly, then fine. But if I'm walking a trail or road, I'm a Bull in a china closet. Eat'n and a drink'n. If on stand, I hold out as long as possible. Noises and things that smell. If I'm hunting Blacktail in close quarters, I've always got a cover scent at my boot heels or hat.

It's strictly a matter of wind direction, as far as I'm concerned. Any deer downwind from me is gonna smell me to some extent, and avoid my locale. So, I doubt that any other smell is gonna matter.
Noise travels in all directions...
