I have owned and sold 1911's in .45 and .38 Super. Now I don't have any, and everytime I look at a nice used Kimber, Colt or S&W 1911, I drool. Also like the Sig, but it is out of my price range (I am retired and money is not as available now).

Thinking seriously of trading my 625-3 .45 ACP for a 1911 .45.

It is a 5" bbl model, box and papers, including the wax paper, original S&W half moon clips and approximately 100 full moon clips (most unused), demoon tool, Pachmayr grips and Hogue Pau Ferro wood grips. I was thinking of $600 as trade value?

Appreciate input; I don't keep up with prices, and haven't seen many of these. I am in Atlanta area and a trade would be FTF in the area. I have traded out of area several times and the FFL and shipping fees just get too expensive.

Not sure what or who you are trading with? But, most gun shops will base the trade allowance price on what they can buy new one for, less 20 percent of the whsle. price. Now, high demand item might generate a premium on the trade in value. But, with the IDPA rule changes the 5in 625 is not as desireable. My guess is that you are looking at 425 or so from a dealer? Accesories really do nothing to the value in some cases. YMMV!

I'd be suprised if trade in value was more than $400, on a $700 --> $1000 1911.

You are almost always better off selling a gun outright, than trading it in.

Thanks for input. I would be trading with an individual or selling outright. I never trade in a gun at a dealer; that is as bad or worse than trading cars.

Mine was $435 new as a part of a group buy of a bowling pin league in around 1995. Hogue grips can be bought for around $60 or so new and the moon clips are just a nice addition, used to be around $30 for 100 at LaPrade.

Trade value depends on your area, desirability and also how your trade partner is pricing his gun, retail or discounted. If you get $600, good for you but I would not give it.

I don't understand that part. There are a BUNCH of great used P220's out there for the same or less than most 1911's I've seen. Check the 'Handguns for Sale' forum right here. I agree with the $400-425 range on the 625.

thanks guys, guess it will just sit for now. by the way, I meant a Sig GSR, not a 220. I don't find the Sig 220 to be a good fit in my hand.

I got a 625-3 4 inch last month $450. Looks like less than a box of ammo was put in it. I'm in the process of polishing and smoothing every thing.(Was kind of rough action for a Smith) Been shooting a 610 in IDPA for a couple years so this year I will try this or the 625-10 in the S&W Winter Championships.
