Favorite coalition weapon?

April 2, 2003, 10:30 PM
So what's the neatest battlefield weapon you have seen the troops carrying in Iraq?
Now I'm generally talking available to the average GI. Not the Abrams tank, or the B2 bomber or a bunker buster. Something you would want in the home defense system.
The Abrams won't fit in the garage. :(

Me, I got a hankering for one of those 25mm automatic grenade launchers. I could certainly keep the mob at bay with that thing. Call it the 'crowd pleaser'.

I also like the 155mm Howitzer that lobs a warhead 18 miles, on target the 1st volley. SWEET.

What's your favorite that you could reasonably have at home? I know some of you with large spreads have room for a division, but I'm a city dweller with no place for an Apache or Warthog.

I think you're confusing the 25mm chain gun with the MK19 automatic grenade launcher (40mm).

I'll pass on both, since I don't particularly hate my neighbors (that much).

April 3, 2003, 01:29 AM
I dont know what its called, but my fav(shoulder fired) weapon in Irac is one the Brits have. It is a relatively short machinegun that is gas operated and is belt or mag fed. I think the Brits use it in the same capacity as we use the SAW (M249)

P.S. I think Ive seen one on the cover of the Blackhawk catalog.

What is it?

April 3, 2003, 05:13 AM
SAW or the Ma Deuce.

April 3, 2003, 05:13 AM
I'm a simple guy so it's the M16A2 for me. Although I'd love to have an M1A1 Abrams... :D

April 3, 2003, 05:23 AM
man-portable, I'd have to go with the M240B.

though the M4A1 does have it's appeal ...

April 3, 2003, 07:13 AM
Barrett M-82A1 without a doubt. There is just something primally appealing about a 12.7 x 99mm sniper rifle with a 1,000+ yd. range.

April 3, 2003, 08:03 AM
Hay, guys, I like them ALL from their pocket knife to the MOAB!!! However, I believe their BEST 'weapon' is the intel, planning and cooperation that is evident by our forces. YOU GO GUYS!

Give us more MOAB's dog-gone-it. Drop them everywhere. Heck, give me fleets of B-52's dropping them in carpet bombing! Yea Baby!:D

April 3, 2003, 11:07 AM
roger that Romberg..

Splash over...

April 3, 2003, 11:11 AM
Ok, here I go...

I like the Abrams, the B2 Bomber and the bunkerbuster. ;)

That would be my home defense arsenal.

The End.

April 3, 2003, 11:11 AM
Do you guys think that we will see any pics of the MOAB dropped in this campaign?

What is the effective radius of a moab to neutralize personel, light armor, and tanks?

April 3, 2003, 11:34 AM
I want a "fifty-cal." One of my coworkers was busy telling me, while watching a FNC video spot on the war, that "our fifty cal will go clean through a tank." And not one of them thin-skinned APC jobbies, either. A Russian T-72 tank.

So I gotta go get me one of those.

April 3, 2003, 11:58 AM

Don't you know that your typical AR-15 can do the same thing as long as you use SS-109 ammunition? If you're interested, I'll sell you some armor-piercing M855 for $100/20. Heck, I'll even throw in shipping (as long as it's under $2) and a piece of paper that one of these buggers penetrated at 200 yards. Try to find XM193 that'll do that!

April 3, 2003, 12:06 PM
Gimli, son of Gloin, wanted only his axe and a row of orc necks. To paraphrase:

Give me an A-10 and a row of T-72's.

April 3, 2003, 12:15 PM
I have 2 votes..

1) The A-10 Thunderbolt/Warthog. Man those are SWEEET! BUUURRRRPPP !!!

2) The PALADIN self propelled 155mm Howitzer. 22 miles of super accurate range. 4 and a half minutes from the time a scout sights a target until a HUGE bomb falls on it! Amazing! Self contained against all agents and it's air conditioned!

April 3, 2003, 01:08 PM
The original poster DID specify small arms. ;)

I still want my anti-tank .50 cal. That wussy .223 crap will probably just penetrate ONE side of the tank, snowdog. I want to be able to go clean through.

Mike ;)

April 3, 2003, 01:23 PM
I wouldn't cry if someone gave me an M249.

April 3, 2003, 01:33 PM
Yup, the poster ruled out the M1A1, and then asked for a 155mm artillery piece. Seem odd to me, but hey, it's his thread. I'd like to have a Barret M82.

April 3, 2003, 01:50 PM
Ok small arms then :)

I really, REALLY like the looks of the Brit's SA-80. Too bad it doesn't function as good as it looks :(

April 3, 2003, 04:30 PM
Not really a weapon but...

the chickens.

April 3, 2003, 04:58 PM
I'd like an MP5SD6, an M4 and an M249 SAW.:D

April 3, 2003, 05:05 PM
I would like the .30 cal machine gun that I have seen mounted on some tanks and other vehicals.

April 3, 2003, 06:36 PM
I'll take the M40:

Or the M14, maybe done up like this:

April 3, 2003, 06:51 PM
Obviously the A-10 Warthog with its 30 mm gatling gun and multiple attachment points for various other nasties.

April 3, 2003, 06:59 PM
Didn't the air force want to deactivate the A-10 after Desert Storm? Did they send some of them to reserve units?

April 5, 2003, 03:09 AM
I like the bullpup one the Brits have, the Royal Ordinance L82, I think. But you can never go wrong with thw M-16(or M-4) with the M-203 Grenade launcher

April 5, 2003, 07:44 AM
I would like an F/A-18F equipped with all the bells and whistles including the new Advanced Tactical FLIR (ATFLIR) and a couple of lazer guided weapons like JDAM, GBU-24, etc. I think the fighter guys are very disappointed that the Iraqis were too chicken to come up.

April 5, 2003, 06:40 PM
The Beretta M9

It looks so good in that shiny metallic finish

April 5, 2003, 06:46 PM
I like the bullpup one the Brits have, the Royal Ordinance L82, I think.

Not to be arguementative but that thing sucks. They've worked on it for twenty years and they still can't get it to function well in the desert and it still has some jamming problems... :barf:

April 6, 2003, 12:44 AM
y'all are crazy, only one person mentioned anything M14 related.

give ME a DMR

or some other long range match m14 variant.

April 6, 2003, 01:19 AM
I actually like the T-72.

They make such pretty roman candles...

April 6, 2003, 01:20 AM
You guys can keep your fancy rifles and your long range shots. I'll be happy with a rucksack full of M67 Fragmentation Grenades. Gauranteed to make your enemy go boom.

April 6, 2003, 01:20 AM
OK, I've got a list..... :D

M-16, with an M203 grenade launcher
50 cal sniper rifle (Think it's a Barret)
308, sniper rifle
Humvee with mounted 30 cal
And a partridge in a pair treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :o
Oh yea!!! :what: I almost forgot the claymores!!!!! :D
LOTS, and LOTS of claymores....... and a few hundred lbs of C-4 and a few thousand yards of det cord...:D :D :D

April 6, 2003, 03:06 AM
I'll take a '60.

the Pig.

April 6, 2003, 04:19 AM
<drool>"This side towards enemy" ... yeah .. Claymores </drool>

That aside, have you guys seen the Javelin rockets they hump around? There was some footage of one being fired at Baghdad airport (after the first one failed to fire for a very rattled GI) and man did that make a pretty BOOM! when it hit. I really want one of those. Maybe a few. It should make really light work of yard work this spring.

April 6, 2003, 08:16 AM
I wouldn't mind one of the Brit Land Rover 110s with a 240 mounted in front and a .50 mounted in the back. I'd really like to have an M270A1 MLRS, as well.

Dave Bean
April 6, 2003, 09:13 AM
I would like to have the A-10 as my personal plane !!!! That's how much I like it !!!!!! The fighter jocks can have their fancy jets, I think the Warthog is more fun.

Dave Bean

April 6, 2003, 11:27 AM
Gotta stick with Ma Duece. H*lluva lady, sometimes a B*tch, but always there when you need her for about, oh, about a hundred years now?

April 6, 2003, 01:58 PM
You know, way back in to A1 days, when I was stationed in West Germany, I carried a 1911 when I knew nothing was going on and I could get away with it: medics are authorized but...

When I couldn't, I carried the standard A1, which, via the gun mags, I considered good for ground hogs at 150 yards or less...

When I thought things could get serious, I grabbed one with the M203 on it.

All things considered, it was a good choice then, and would be now.

April 6, 2003, 08:50 PM
I think I like the SAW. For an FA weapon, .223 is just cheap enough to have a lot of fun while not break the bank.

I think I'd also go with the M2 Bradley over the M1A. It's a much more sensible vehicle with much more cargo space for the kids and groceries. It's sort of like an armoured, tracked minvan. :D
