I am currently in kansas, and i have been wondering what the carry laws are? I know for sure that there is no ccw permits here, but I have heard that you can carry as long as it is visable, the the grips at least have to be showing. oh yeah and there can't be a round in the chamber, but how are they gonna really be able to tell if you have a round chambered, even if there is a loaded chamber indicator are they gonna get that close to look and see? Do you guys know the facts about this topic, and would it really be a good idea to carry where others could see it? please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for all the replies!

www.packing.org will give you some info on what's legal in Kansas.
I know when I drove thru there 2 weeks ago I had to disarm, lock my gun in a case seperate from the ammo and out of reach. I felt vulnerable for sure.

You are only allow to carry concealed ,when within 50yds of tornado and it must be a class 3 at least. They consider this a SHTF , and will allow carry during and only during that time. Remember carry only with the 50yd limit.and you will be ok.

Our wonderful Kansas politicians think all of us civilians are too stupid to be trusted with guns. So you can only carry on your own property. And as has been stated, if you're on your way to the range, everything has to be locked up separately.
And, believe it or not, they say this is a Republican state. But we're just a bunch of dumb hayseeds out here.:cuss:
Now, on the other hand, if you're a criminal, you can carry anything you want and the penalty is almost nonexistent.

I believe that now you can carry your gun loaded in the vehicle, but not on your person concealed while out and about. This is what the local state trooper told me. Get a new governor and we may get concealed carry. I thought sure Tim Shallenburger would win and I spent a lot of time campaining for him, needless to say I was shocked.

Don't be so sure he's correct. Best to stick to the letter of the law. The trooper is not the Attny General.

A new law the governor signed 4/16/05 makes it legal to carry a firearm anywhere in the state as long as it's unloaded and in an enclosed container. Taking effect July 1, the law says local governments can't impose more stringent controls.
Also, one Sherriff's opinion:

Dear Mr. GXXXXX,
In response to your letter dated August 2, 2001 reference gun laws in Kansas, I have enclosed a copy of A21-4201 which deal with the weapon laws of Kansas. As you can see in Article 1 subsection (4) you can not carry on one’s persons a weapon concealed. What is considered visible is a matter of interruption. In Harvey County a weapon must be in plain sight, a gun in a holster on the outside of the pants is fine. A strap over the trigger is not considered concealed. A gun inside of your pants may be considered concealed, because a person can not control a piece of clothing that may conceal the weapon at times.
As for carrying in a vehicle the weapon must be in plain view, on the floor, seat, dash etc.
You have number 4 correct. But, no matter if it is legal or not if you are carrying a weapon in public, people will become anxious and will in all probability call law enforcement to check you out. Also if the business does not want you on their property with a weapon they have the right to request you to leave.
Best wishes,

http://www.packing.org/state/kansas/ These guys do alot of leg work for us CCW'ers but I would get smart on the laws in the books as a primary means.

As long as the canyon between the Republican far right and the moderates exists, and as long as we pick candidates from our extreme, the Democrats will continue to be able to beat us at the polls and hold the Governor's mansion.
Right now, the State GOP has set so many hurdles and loops for any Gubernatorial candidate that no one wants the job or even wants to run for it. Given that scenario Sibelius will kick our butts once again.
It's like the opposite of the national scene. Last two times, the Republicans didn't win the White House, the Democrats gave it to them. In Kansas, the Republicans hand it to the Democrats with a ribbon on it.
The great majority of Americans are not "far left" or "far right". They're moderates, and that's where you win elections.

We really need to form a CCW Litmus test group in Kansas. If that danged Ohio transplant wants to keep her job, she'd better stop blocking us. I'm tired of the republican chasm sending us one unelectable nutjob after another in the primary. There are an awful lot of sensible, law abiding gun owners in Kansas, won't one of 'em PLEASE run for governor? Tell me you'll authorize a sensible CCW law and I'll vote for you, no matter what wing of the Republican party you belong to. (I'd vote for a Democrat, but their current offering has her panties in a wad. I suspect she fears that guns will cause further chafing)

Exactly. There's an old political adage that says "elections aren't won, they are lost". Sibelius didn't win and neither did Bush. The opposition lost it in both cases. And, in both cases, by putting up unelectable candidates.
On a slightly different slant, I'm also fully convinced that there are a number of Republicans serving in Topeka that aren't really Republicans. They're Democrats in disguise because, in many parts of the State, that's the only party some people are capable of voting for.
