13" vs 14.5" LOP...That Much Difference?

Does a 1.5" difference in LOP make that much of a difference? I found a Speedfeed Benelli stock that has a 13" LOP but don't want to drop almost $100 (or so) to find out it doesn't feel much different.
I haven't had the chance to ever handle a Benelli with an aftermarket stock, so any advice on LOP in general would be greatly appreciated.

"Serious" shotguns are shot like rifles, and should be stocked the same way.
I'm a behemoth, and the TB has about a 15" LOP right now. I shoot it well, but it would be much too long to use super fast, when wearing heavy clothing or body armor.
OTOH, the 20 gauge YE I got for the kids has about a 12 1/2" LOP, IIRC. I can shoot it, tho it takes some changes in form.
It's easier to shoot with a short stock than one that's too long.

BIG difference!
Factory stocks seem to be getting increasingly longer----problem is--my arms aren't.
Go down to Wally's or the gunshop and handle a 870 Youth Express---is has a 13'' LOP----and see if you like that.
For me--13'' is a touch small----but usable.
13.5'' to 13.75'' are darn near perfect
14'' to 14.25'' a touch long---but usable
Anything longer than that will be seeing the business end of a saw.
Went and double checked----yup 13'' LOP

Gun Fit is very important ! LOP is just one part of the equation.
What is the gun being used for? Clothing ( summmer/winter)
Skunk, I'm guessing your talking tactical , I have heard some use a shorter LOP because of vests/gear and the low shoulder mount. Need to ask those that shoot 3 gun or tactical .
Being an CIT I busted clays, hunted...etc. Last time I shot a stage of steel /clay I used a borrowed stock 1100 NO mag ext. I did build up comb ( 1100 too low for me). I didn't have a problem , but again I used to be real intimate with a shotty. I'd easily burn 10K rds a year. "Quail Walks" of yesteryear taught me to shoot/reload on the run and shoot.
My competition guns had a LOP's of 14 3/8, 14 5/8. ( IIRC) I wear a 33 sleeve, but I'm 6' and everyone is different in neck, chest build...etc. Now I have shot 14 3/4 and even a Kriegoff with a15".
Gun Fit is very important , IMO . Hitting what one sees, felt recoil, gun mounting, swing, follow through...etc , etc. I f one ever shoots a gun that really truly fits they wil be amazed at what they have missed. I really wish more people would consider gun fit FIRST, then make an informed purchase . Most buy "Iwannacoolgunvirus", "Gunmagmania" "tacticaltoys". Cart before the horse...IMO

Yes, it makes a big difference. If you have short arms (like me), try the difference between a A1-stocked AR15 rifle and a A2 stocked rifle. That reduction in length of pull -- only 5/8", mind you -- is not only noticeable, it's essential for me.

Skunk,
Where did you find this speedfeed Benelli Stock?

The difference is immediately noticable. This is a reason in a sea of reasons why I'm going to switch to 870 from my Nova sometime in the future.

I'm approximately your size (frame wise) and I find a 13 inch LOP to be about perfect. my mossberg came with a 14.5 inch LOP and it was horrendously long.

And for me personally I love 14 1/2 or 15, but like Dave I'm a Behemoth. :)

Behemoths of the world,Unite!
One final word about LOP here....
Like many folks who started out on what was available, I learned to shoot with an unsuitable stock length. It can be done.
But, there's lots of folks out there that let this stop them.
NOTHING tames the recoil mule down to a pony like good fit combined with good form.Fit and from do more good than gas autos, porting, long cones, or the other stuff we seek for miracle cures.
WEG, most folks are best with the standard stock if they run close to standard themselves. Call it maybe 40% of all shotgunners. The other 60% are handicapping themselves by not getting the stock fitting fairly close.
Behemoths are better off than pixies, since we can work with a short stock better than a pixie can with a standard to long one. Even 1/4" difference can help or harm.

Ugly, but we will see on its functionality. I have to go buy a 2-shot extension now that I sold mine because they only have one w/ a pistol grip

I took a class from Louie Awerbuck and he noticed immediately that my stock was too long. He gave me a loaner short stock until I got mine modified. It made a huge difference! Felt recoil is less, accuracy is greater, handling is faster.

Oh man, our chief Benelli proponent is gonna ditch his M1s90 for an 870?!
Just givin' ya flak, nothing else!

Regarding the Benelli I feel like a total dork for selling my 2-shot extension :o

Skunk skunk SKUNK!!! Just say NO to Botach!
Arizona Gun Runners! (http://www.arizonagunrunners.com/Products/SpeedFeed/speedfeed.html) They've got your stock for only $55 short, $52 regular LOP!!!
BTW, I'm 6'3"... and I just ordered one yesterday for my Winchester Defender with 14" LOP...
I always just shot rifles and shotguns, never giving any thought to LOP, until I shot my first M1 Carbine... 13" LOP, and the quickest-to-shoulder weapon I've ever handled! Then my AR15 with CAR stock... 13" LOP, and wonderful. I put an A2 on it for a while, but it just didn't FEEL right. I noticed that my Winchester felt "long" to me, and scooped up a Speedfeed as soon as I realized the LOP was 14".
FWIW, I went Skeet shooting on a "teambuilder" outing here at work last summer. I took my Dad's 1300 bird gun, and the "skeet expert" told me the LOP was too short for me. It's 14" too. So what fits one doesn't fit the other, and what's SUPPOSED to fit doesn't neccessarily fit either. ;)
$100!!! Geez!

The Gunsite custom shop charges $100 just to reduce the length of a Benelli stock. If I could get a reduced LOP stock for my M1S90 for that price I'd be happy. Sigh, nothing's cheap for this gun.
