Anybody ever hear of a M14 mount made by Western Magazine? I found one for 75 bucks but i have never heard nor can i find anything about Western Magazine so i don't know if it is a good mount or not? Also is a leapers mount good or the mount made by the John Masen Co?

I've never heard of this company. I do like the basic design of the new Leatherwood mount, but I've never seen one. Drilling/tapping a front mount bolt hole seems like a necessity to me to solidly anchor the mount. See

OK, am I blind or just missing the mount?

Dude, I think it's safe to say when it comes to M-14 scope mounts (or most anything really), you are going to get what you pay for. Never heard of Western Magazine making scope mounts before, just cheap magazines that never worked right, sort of another USA magazine sort of deal. The only thing I've seen Leapers make is more cheap junk generally sold through Tapco, Cheaper than Dirt and other low quality dealers at gun shows.
You'd be a lot better off getting a reputable mount right from the get-go. Brookfield Precision Tool (if you can find one) is generally considered the best though A.R.M.S. is another good maker and Smith also makes a copy of the BPT mount.
Only catch is that these mounts are going to be a lot more expensive than the cheap junk a lot of places sell but personally, I've owned enough junk that I don't even look at that stuff anymore. If this makes me a snob, so be it but I've owned enough junk in the past that I've come to realize that I would have been money ahead if I bought the good quality stuff in the first place rather than waste the money on crap then have to spend more money on the good quality gear when I found out the cheap crap wasn't going to get the job done.

Grunt,
Hear Hear!!! "Buy cheap, buy twice!" May heaven forbid we ever have to lay our life on the line, but if so how much is my life worth to me?? Certainly more than the cost differential between a good mount and cheap john scrap metal...

Leapers i have heard have gotten better over the years and the John Masen mounts are reworked designs to be better, heaiver grade steel. ARMS #18 is tooo rich for my blood i am sorry. The Western Magazine mount is on Sportmansguide.com for about 75 bucks and i couldn't even find a company webpage. Anyone know a good mount for about 120 bucks?

MSAP is Manufacturers Suggested Advertised Price whis is the price the manufaturer won't tolerate advertising their product below.

I've got 2 McCann mounts for mine on the recommendation of a buddy of mine in 5th group and it performs flawlessly. http://www.gokart.net/shop-utopia/mccann/mount/m1a_m14mount/m1a_m14mount.html

Copy and paste link. Don't waste time and money buying junk!
There are only a few good M-14- M1a1 mounts that work and fit right.
Spend the extra money and get a good mount.

Do what I did. Check for a used Springfield Scope Mount on Ebay and buy one of the 2nd generation mounts offered.

Do as Grunt says, he knows of what he speaks. I've got a Brookfield clone listed on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7224958608&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

You might be able to purchase it for your price, but there are over two dozen people watching it as of today. Good luck.

I researched the hell out of it and decided to go with a Sadlak steel mount. Just got my M14 built and delivered on Friday and I'm one happy camper.

Go with A.R.M.S., Sadlak, or Smith, a scope mount for a M-14 type rifle is one place you can`t cheap out on. I have the A.R.M.S. system and couldn`t be happier. Regards
