Student fined for 'apple cannon'
April 02, 2003

A BOARDING school student has been fined $180 for firing apples from a homemade cannon into a Brisbane shopping centre car park.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to two firearm offences in Brisbane's Magistrates Court today after firing five "hard green apples" off a Brisbane unit balcony on March 25.

The court heard the Saint Peter's Lutheran College senior had been showing off his cannon-making skills honed at home in country Victoria when a witness called police to the unit at Indooroopilly in western Brisbane.

The court heard the youth admitted to owning the cannon which he had fashioned from two pieces of PVC pipe.

He told police he loaded it with apples and used aerosol deodorant and a flint striker to ignite the pipe and propel the fruit through the air.

Brisbane Magistrate Gordon Dean told the youth it was an act of folly and issued a four-month good behaviour bond with the fine.

Maybe there's hope for the youth of Australia yet!! :D

(In this part of the world, they're orange cannons. I've got 5,000 ammo trees in the yard. :D)
