Dear Friends,

I have just been offered an Ingram Mac 10 for a interesting price. It is the semi automatic version made by Military Armament Corp, Stephenville, TX. I have heard certain people say that they are rather worthless, at least much less good than those originally made...
Has anyone had any experience with them?

I have a Cobray MAC 11 and I know some people with MAC 10s and we are all happy. Definitly isnt going to win any competitions but they are fun to shoot.

The originals fired from a open bolt. Later ones from a closed. The ATF thought open bolts were too easy to change to full auto. If the price is good get it.

The originals were designed as a throw away gun , good for about 500 rds !

a friend had one of the fully auto mac-10's. it sure doesn't take very long to shoot up 5 lb coffee cans of ammo. it sure was fun but I'm not sure we hit everything we were shooting at

You should grab it. It's a fun gun. :) I purchased my MAC-10 ages ago. Sure it's heavy, bulky and fires from a closed bolt. But out in the boonies it's a blast to plink away with. I almost needed a crowbar to get it away from my girlfriend. As for practical application it has little utility. But I would not want to encounter someone holding one at night if I were in their residence or business.

If it's a decent deal, buy it. Open bolt semis go for around $700 when you can find them.

I've got an older Mac10A1 also made in TX, same markings as you describe. Says 9mm, 45ACP on the side, closed bolt semi, probably same exact thing you're talking about.
It works great, when clean and oiled. Dont clean it, let it stay dry, and you'll be lucky to get a mag of 9 through it.
Trigger pull is horrible, probably around 12 pounds, rear sight is ridiculous, it's like someone took a real small drill bit and buzzed it through the center. How are you supposed to find the front sight through that when the gun is extended? Honestly now. But if you get used to it, and can see the front sight, you can consistently shoot down steel plates with the gun, it's got better than expected accuracy. Aside from the weight, trigger pull and front sight, it looks cool, and holds a lot of rounds. And that's all I cared about when I bought it.
Plus, I know there are some real cool conversions out there for these platforms that turn them into rifles in various calibers, which I found by accident one night, and can't seem to find again. If I find it, i'll post it.
