This is reported in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (state paper)this AM from Little Rock AR and also on Channel 7 TV from LR:

Police were called by a citizen because a man was shooting in a residential area. Turns out that a black guy was shooting an SKS into the air, etc. and had also been doing the same the night before (New Years). When confronted, he was first shot with beanbags, he fired some more rounds into the ground, raised the rifle to chest level and allegedly fired one round in the direction of officers. They returned fire (7-11 rounds) and he was hit (maybe up to 6 times). Was carried to a hospital, had surgery and has since died.

He had a drug record for distribution of marijuana, firearm possession and drug possession.

He was the son on one of the Little Rock 9 who were the first to integrate the LR Central High School many years ago.

Quotes from local residents as reported in the paper:
"Just another brother," ;"They pumped him full of bullets."
"Ain't no justice in the hood."

I guess, maybe it was a bad idea to point a firearm at the police.http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/moreek.gif

And anybody in the 'hood would have responded the same way if a gun was unlawfully pointed at them.
