Glock sales up or down these days?

It seems like everyone is making a Glock knockoff these days (black, tupperware, DA [or whatever you want to call it]). Has Kahr, Springfield, Taurus, CZ, etc. taken a bite out of Glock's sales?

I'm pretty sure in Minnesota the sales are down, and a lot more used ones are also starting to hit the gun shops.

Sig's Certified Pre-Owned program can't be helping Glock sales. :D

For $10 to $20 more why get a Glock when you can get a Sig.

Great point...I feel the same even if I have to pay $100 or $200 more for a Sig.

Glocks seem to reliably hold their own in the California state. I usually see someone fondling a Glock when I'm in the shop. Pretty hard to reliably predict whether or not Glock sales are up or down these days except by asking the gunshop owners around this board.

Hard to say, unless you're actually going to consider the sales reports generated by each manufacturer. Sometimes gunstore owners simply order whatever is the popular flavor of the month with their customers ... who may only be asking for whatever is the popular flavor of the month on the covers of the gun rags (not so subtle paid advertising, of course). It is a business, you know.

I stopped by a new gunstore the other day and saw a selection of handguns that were fairly equally representative when it came to most all of the major makers, importers & models. Something to please and attract the eye of just about anyone.

I've heard the .45GAP isn't selling as well in CA as the company would like to see, but that it's still early in the life of this caliber, too.

The Glocks I've seen appearing in people's hands have been mostly for cops as off-duty weapons, though, since that's what I do for a living ... which is where the subcompacts seem to be very popular, especially the G26/27's ... and something for the occasional IDPA enthusiast. Last one I saw was a G34 a fellow cop picked up for his weekend forays into IDPA pursuits ...

I was in another gunstore recently, this time a cop store who is also a stocking Glock dealer, and while they had a decent selection of Glock 9mm & .40 pistols (compared to their normal selection) and even a G39, they didn't have a G30 in the case ... which is exactly what someone came in asking for, of course. ;) Interestingly enough, I was there to pick up a SW1911Sc and another guy at the counter was picking up a Para.

You always need to consider that total price really does play a factor in a lot of folk's thinking, too ... and there are probably more folks out there than the members of forums like this may realize who don't do much more research before selecting a firearm than picking up a current copy of some gun magazine.

Hi there,

I don't have access to Glock's sales figures, but I don't think that they are suffering in popularity or sells regardless of what the competition is doing.

Glock's sales in the international market worldwide keep them in growing use and popularity. The US market is only one slice of the pie.

Smith and Wesson's latest rendition of the their new M&P looks very interesting, but I doubt they make a dent in Glock's established law enforcement market.

GLOCK's are like Accords and Camrys...

Competition is stronger than ever with all the new models out, but they are in no danger of falling at the back of the pack.

I've been to 2 gun shows in as many weeks trying to find someone walking with a 26 to no avail. The dealers are trying to get 500-ish (used) for the subcompacts so they can't be hurting too bad.

I've been drooling over Glocks again lately and I hear they're offering discounts to military personnel. Very tempting.

However, I've owned five different models of Glocks over the years and I can't seem to hold onto any. I've stuck with my Beretta 92 and H&K USP (although I changed the latter from .40 to .45).

I've got nothing against Glocks. I particularly like the G17. I just don't like them enough to keep one in my circulation.

Or do I? :uhoh:

I would think sales are up due to the fact normal capacity magazines are available and reasonably priced to the majority of the USA now. I never understood owning a Glock 17 with a 10 round mag.

That would also apply to all the other higher capacity pistols.

How could any of you so-called "experts" possibly have a clue how Glock sales are doing in your area? Well, of course, you can't. B.S. is B.S. is B.S., regardless of where you're from.

I dunno Rockstar. THR is one of the biggest websites for gun enthusiasts...perhaps a few people here might have some experience in selling or buying guns. Or perhaps some LEO's might have noticed if their department switched to another make. I would assume you're one of those Glock owners that gets defensive when anyone uses the word Glock and doesn't follow it with "they are the greatest". I like Glocks and have owned several. I asked this question because I just recently noticed how many Glock wannabees are on the store shelves and wondered if they had taken any business from Glock.

Agreed. Didn't get mine untill after the sunset. I would imagine the biggest taker of potential Glock buyers is the XD. The M&P might do similarly.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so I guess that explains the copies out there. About 9 months ago we had some in Massachusetts. A friend bought one and about 2 weeks later was called and asked if he would like to return if for a full refund, as the Glocks had not passed the state's compliance testing (whatever that is). He said NO and the store said not a problem. I have been to severals gun stores since then and do not recall seeing any Glocks, so I don't know if they are now Mass compliant or not. One other thing. In our great state, the mag capacity (even after the Fed's let the high capacity mag bill die) is still 10. Glad I bought my Hi Caps prior to the ban!

Just my own observations, and really not worth a plug nickel, but I have noticed that I see less and less LEO's carrying Glocks. Whether or not thats indicative of overall sales here in Colorado, I have no idea. I don't particularly care for Sigs, but I have said it before and will say it again, that Certified Pre-Owned program they have is a stroke of genius...

Not an "expert" I guess, but at the store I work in, Glock sales are down overall. XD's are selling really well now and gaining. Take it for what its worth, but that is a trend I think will continue.

We keep a good stock of Glocks and yes they sell fairly quickly but the XD's and other types are taking a chunk out of Gaston's creation.

What are you talking about?

You can dispense with the B.S. remarks. The local gun shops and run and operated by human beings. Humans have the tendency to respond when you ask them what I like to call a question. Go into shop on a slow day with intent to buy something, and a good shop usually won't have any problems with engaging in a little conversation; especially if you frequent the place. Building up a good relationship with these shop owners can give one insight into information which can be beneficial in a number of areas. Yes, a lot of shops will tell you whatever it takes for you to make a purchase. But go in with knowledge and understanding and you will be received differently.

So in short, I base my opinions on what I see for sale, what others are buying, and general conversation with the aforementioned owners. It doesn't take an expert to do any of this. You can believe as you wish, as it has no bearing on info I have attained myself. ;)

Well, in the last month I have purchased three! :)

As for that SIG pre-owned certified program...does nothing for me. I see no reason to spend more money for a used gun that I like less.

I do know that many of the Florida State agencies are converting to GLOCK but the Highway Patrol is sticking with their Beretta 96D's. The Local Sheriff in the last few years ditched the Berettas and went with GLOCK though the local cops in several agencies large and small are still packing the SIG 226.
