Hello All,
I been researching Saa's on the net and it seems like some people feel that U.S. Firearm's makes better Saa's than Colt. I'm interested in the Pre-War Model http://www.usfirearms.com/home2.htm Does anyone here have one of these? Can you comment on their fit, finish, and build quality?

Thanks,

K22

LET TELL YOU, THE USFA SA SIXGUNS ARE NOW AS NICE AS ANYTHING COLT HAS EVER DONE.
It amazes me to say so too. I have first, second, and third generation COLT SA sixguns and the newer USFA guns are as nice as the best of my COLT's.
I have my eye on a USFA BISLEY 4 3/4" TARGET in 45COLT/45ACP with real ivory stocks. If the owner of it gets his wits about him and puts the proper price on it that sixgun will be taking up residence at my ranchita post haste'.

What kind of prices are the USFA guns bringing?

I saw an ad for them in the latest American Rifleman...

Had an interestingly worded statement about the firing pin and carrying an empty chamber under the hammer.

I've always wanted a real Colt SAA but from what I've seen recent colt quality is hit and miss.

I handled an engraved nickel USFA first generation made with Uberti parts and it was a VERY nice gun, however I would want a newer one made with all US parts.

The USFA's can get kind of pricey, approaching Colt prices. I figure if I'm gonna spend that kind of money I want the best quality available.

I have one of their catalogs on the way. I'd be interested in a 5.5" pre war model with the high gloss armory blue and burl Turkish walnut grips in .38 special.

I'm still kind of hung up on the Colt name though. I would consider a nice 2nd generation Colt, but there's a lot of sticker shock involved there.

second generation [ first month of production ] 5 1/2" Colt SAA 38 Special. Bought it off an old cowboy over in Wyoming and it has the perfect amount of wear to be a classic looking 2nd gen Colt.
The old sonofagun shoots great too! It is the perfect SA sixgun for 38/44 handloads.

The 3rd gen I had was a fair shooter, but too darn expensive for what it was. I would not buy another one unless I could get it cheap.

I've started drooling over the American Western Arms Peacekeeper (http://www.awaguns.com/peacekeeper.asp). The have about the best factory action job I've ever come across. The Peacekeepers I've fondled felt better right out of the box than many of the high-dollar "tuned" guns I've shot. It's also darn affordable!

By the way, I was under the impression that USFA actually IS the old revolver Colt factory (sold and renamed after Colt almost went bust) and that all current Colt branded SAAs are built in the Colt Custom Shop. True or not?

in the old COLT plant.
These SA pistols have come a loooooooooong way in the past few years!!! Their quality is wonderful. Even their inexpensive SA sixgun, the RODEO, is beautifully fit, timed, and finished in a subtle matt blue that is quite nice.

Yep, made in the old Colt plant, under a refurbished blue dome, minus the original rampant Colt, which now belongs to Germany  Colt's new plant is a rather drab affair about three miles away in West Hartford.

Maybe there is something to the "atmosphere" idea about the old Colt factory, but the USFA guns are nice. I bought two Rodeos ($500 each) and consider them the nicest made and fitted SA's I own. The new Colts don't come close. The matte blue (I think) looks great and just enough different to be intriguing.
