I was just over at Gunbroker where I saw a WASR-10 that was claimed to use single and double stack mags. Is this doable, or is the seller just one of the idiots I see on occasion?

I don't know. It might be possible. I never had a 10 round AK magazine to try it. My understanding is that the WASR 10s were originally made with a single stack magazine during "the ban". After "the ban" the mag wells were simply Dremeled out to accept a standard AK magazine.
My particular rifle holds a standard 30 round mag very loosely. The mag rattles from side to side. I suppose you could stick a 10 round mag in there and it would also rattle from side to side. I have no idea why anyone would want a 10 round AK mag, but what do I know ?

The single stack mags are fundamentally different. I wouldnt try it.
My gun is a "dremeled out" SLR101 that was turned into a SAM7. It fits Bulgarian mags perfectly but russians are a teensy bit loose. Polish and Romanian are way too tight and from what I have heard, romanian and polish guns use slightly larger dimensions. Most people have the larger pattern guns (romanians, tantals, etc) so they dont encounter this problem.
