My craziest gun collection

Ok so I can't affort to collect really expensive guns. So one day I realized that I already owned a few cheap guns that are quite famous because of their roles in prominant assasinations.

I know it's not PC but you can't deny it's part of history.

I own an 8-shot Iver Johnson 22 like the one that got Robert Kennedy.

I have a Charter arms 38 like the one that got John Lennon.

I have a Mauser like Oswald's.

I have a little Browning like the one that started WW1.

I'd like to get a few more for my private "museum" :)

The neat thing about this as a hobby is that it's SOOOO cheap! Most crime guns are considered junk guns and usually sell for under 100 bucks. For example, I am looking for a Rohm R6-14 revolver like the one Hinckley used. They can be bought in decent condition for about 25 bucks :)

I'd like to put a list together of famous crime guns so I can keep my eyes peeled for copies of them at gun shows.

Anyone know where I could find such a list?

I hope no one considers this a sick hobby. It's an interesting part of our history to me and that's all.

*EDIT - Oh, I also have an AK and drums like those in the famous LA shootout, but I don't consider that as part of my collection. I am really only interested in cheap guns used in the assasination (or attrempted assasination) of prominant historical figures. So I have no intrest in things like a Columbine style tech-9 for instance.

Not getting into the conspiracy issues, but Oswald used an Italian Carcano rilfe, not a Mauser

Andrew I've heard that too and I believe you are correct. I'd like to find one in fact :)

Art might know for sure, but Charles Whitman used a 6mm Remington 700 along with several other guns.

I'm normally not one for collecting, Bonker, but your take on it sounds pretty cool.

That’s a little odd, not quite tinfoil hat odd though.

I have a little Browning like the one that started WW1.

Archduke Francis Ferdinand was killed with a Browning?

Wow. I did not know that.

Pax; that is a very good question.

What was Lincoln shot with?

Lincoln was shot with a single shot black powder derringer. I don't remember the exact make or model.

I shot out two windows with my Daisy Powerline 860 as a kid. That one could probably be found for cheap to add as a crime gun. I would be willing to pose with it for a picture in the museum.

Oh man... I think Saddam was the victim of the best military snipe of all time.

You actually want 40+ JDams. I’m right along with you... that would be cool.

Question is what kinda range would you go to?

Tales of the Gun had an episode along this line. I think it was titled 'Infamous Guns' or something like that. You might want to check that out.

BTW, anyone see 'Chapelle's Show' last week?

Dave Chapelle as the Prez:
"Oh, and Oswald shot JFK. Just Lee Harvey Oswald, by himself. But he did use a magic bullet. That's right, magic is real, we've known about it for about 2,000 years, but have just kept it a secret.":D

The Saddam gun..hehe good one but I don't think the wife will let me own a 2,000 pound bunker buster :)

Hey I found a pic of the Lincoln gun at the ford's theatre website:

I sure wish I knew exactly what it is !

Bonker-

For info on the gun used to shoot Lincoln, see if you can contact Congressman Dan Burton.
http://www.house.gov/burton/
IIRC, about 6 years ago he did some sort of ballistic test that was supposed to mimic the conditions under which Lincoln was shot.

(My memory on this is kinda hazy, so you might want to confirm before you call up his office and start asking him questions about what sort of gun was used to shoot Lincoln.)

Heya Justin I know all about that research he did. Pretty cool stuff! I don't think he knows what it is exactly though.

But I bet I could do a 4-1-1 for ford's theatre in washington and just ask them :)

"Archduke Francis Ferdinand was killed with a Browning?"

As far as I know...yep! :)

The "Baby Browning" was a little 25 auto pocket sized semi-auto many years ago. It's like those little beretta jetfires. Ruined the poor old archduke's day. :)

Golgo thanks for finding that pic of the infamous .32! (crap I called it a 25! DOH!) :) I wish mine was in a that good of shape and not a rusty pile of crap! :)

Ball I know it was a philly derringer because I've seen it printed so many times. But I have no idea what makes a gun a "Phillidelphia" derringer. I assume it's the shape and size of the stock but I'm not sure.

Okay, let's pick a nit or two here. Lincoln was shot with a single shot, muzzle loading percussion fired Deringer. It was probably about .41 caliber and was made by Henry Deringer in his Philedelphia shop. And the proper spelling is DeRinger, not deRRinger, the extra "R" was added by copycat makers to avoid being sued by Henry Deringer. Now, aren't you sorry you asked?

You must be. He dropped it at the scene and left it behind.

Yeah, it was recovered and preserved. I found this website if you're interested.
