We're all always on the look out for deals and sometimes we come upon one of those firearms that are a must buy. Such was the case of the 1969 Remington 1100 Trap that I was able to find for dear wife's birthday. It was a must buy, not only for the very fair price, but also she and the gun were manufactured the same year
I got the thing home and field stripped it and cleaned it a bit, but was a little unsure about a couple things so I sent it off to the 'smith for a quick run down.
Good thing that I did.....in addition to cleaning up the gun until the bolt slides effortlessly and the trigger breaks like fine crystal, the 'smith discovered that the barrel mount had been broken off and needed replacing. A potentially dangerous situation to my feeble understanding.
Moral of the story is to always check out those used firearms not only for cosmetics and basic function, bit also to look carefully at those things which may not be immediately obvious.....especially if it is a platform with which you are not familiar.
