This gun is intended to be a christmas present from my Mother-in-law to my Father-in-law. I just won it in an auction at www.gunbroker.com and will be paying for it until my Mother-in-law can pay me back. It started a month ago on a Sunday when I asked him to go to the range with me. He works in the oil fields here in north Texas literally seven days a week. He gets off around noon on Sunday when he finishes checking the oil leases. He was in hog heaven. My wife says he never gets to do anything like that and that he really enjoyed going out there. That night after getting back, he was pretty much set on buying his own hand gun but wasn't sure what wanted. We talked about the different kinds whether he wanted a revolver or a semi-automatic and he wanted a semi-auto. Then we talked about caliber and settled on a 9mm due to the cost of ammo. He already had a .22 so, the 9mm would be the next cheapest to shoot. Then we discussed types/brands based on cost. He doesn't have a whole bunch to set aside for a gun so, I suggested what I felt would be good bangs for the buck to keep the cost under 450.00. Two guns came to mind and they were the CZ-75's and the FNHP's sold by CDNN. He didn't want an SAO gun so, that rulled out the Hi-Power. That day we went shooting, he shot my CZ-452 SUPER BRNO 2500 and he was real impressed at the quality of the rifle and decided that he wanted a DA/SA CZ-75B in 9mm. I asked him a couple of days ago about when he would want to go ahead and buy the gun and, he wanted to wait until after christmas. He also made referances about possably buying a gun used. I suspected he was wanting save some money. My wife approached me and said that my Mother-in-law was going to buy the gun for him as a present. We got together and hashed things out and, I just won this auction http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=40780199. I have a real bad itch to buy another gun right now and a full sized 9mm is one of the ones I'm considering. Even though I'm wanting one of those FNHP's from CDNN, I hope I don't get attached to this thing from the time I get it until christmas when I give it up.

Whatever you do, don't handle it too much or you will never be able to get rid of it. If you shoot it, all hope is lost. The best thing you can do is accept the inevitable and buy one for yourself.

You handled a CZ, you are infected. Only cure is to buy one for yourself, and another one every so often....:p Ah, welcome to CZ land!

You'll just have to buy one for yourself, too!:D

Great guns. If you think it feels good, just remember, the Hi-Power feels better. ;)

I am on the verge literally:banghead: . I have a G19 that is currently my only 9mm and is and always will be my CCW piece. I want either a CZ or an FNHP for range use especially with new shooters as a step up gun. I also think either of the two with nice wood grips would be a good stable mate to these two.

Don't worry, you'll get attached. Damn accurate and just plain fun to shoot. The other day I spied a 30rd mag for my 75 at Cabelas, so I'm itching to try it out.:D

Just be sure to have your Mother-in-law fill out the 4473 and pay the transferring dealer. Don't create a Strawman Purchase which is illegal.

It's not illegal to purchase a handgun as a gift for someone else.

According to the original post the poster was not the one considering giving the gift. It would depend on the hashed out deal.

I called the regional ATF office in DFW to clairify the legality of this pistol being bought as a gift. The guy there said that there wasn't going to be a problem with what I was intending to do. Even though I'm the one initially paying for the gun and filling out the paper work. So, that's good news.
