I think The American Eagle ammo is made by Federal. But from what I have heard it is a good qaulity brand.

its Federal, and yes its good stuff. not any cleaner or dirtier than the rest and usually a good price. i carry federal's .40S&W 155gr JHP's and i usually practice with the 155gr American Eagle stuff. but i just got a great deal on 1000 rounds of 180 and 1000 rounds of 165 American Eagle for $200. can't beat that.

I pretty much only use American Eagle (and sometimes PMC) for range ammo these days. I can get the Am Eagle pretty cheap and it has always worked great in all my guns, so has PMC.
I haven't been too happy with Win White Box lately. It seems to work fine in my HKs, but I've had several jams (only with WWB) in a Glock 26, Walther P99, Springfield 1911, and Beretta 92FS.

Stay away from the .45ACP American Eagle Ammo.
That stuff is bad juju.

IMO, the American Eagle ammo is the worst of the big three's generic pistol ammo.
It's dirtier, not as accurate and more expensive then either UMC or Winchester USA. Also, for some reason I have a very difficult time removing the copper fouling that results from shooting American Eagle. Much more so than with any other ammo I've shot.
I find this interesting since I consider Federal's regular ammo to be the best of the big three...

I agree, I think Federal is the most consistant and accurate factory ammo out there. I've shot a lot of the American Eagle in a couple of calibers and never really noticed any difference from any other ammo Federal makes. Its always been reliable and accurate. I havent noticed it as being any dirtier than the others.

I've been using 124gr 9mm American Eagle as of late. Before this I was using Geco 124gr, the company I was buying from went under. The AE stuff seems just as accurate as the Geco and slightly cleaner. Works for me.

I shot cases and cases of American Eagle in both 9mm and .45 ACP before I started reloading. I find it to be cleaner than Winchester USA or PMC or S&B, more consistent than the others and its great brass for reloading.
Don't confuse American Eagle with American Ammunition in the red box.............different companies and very different ammo.

American eagle .22's are pure junk, at least in my 10/22. Malf. every 3rd mag and 3" at 50. But still minute of soup can.

I shot A LOT of AE 9mm 115 FMJ through a Browning High Power back in the mid '90s, and had not a single problem.

It's my favorite cheap ammo. If anything, it sometimes seems to be loaded a little hotter than the Federal Premium or Classic rounds, which seems a little surprising.

Federals value-price red boxed American Eagle ammo has always been a good performer for me.
DO NOT confuse that brand with the American Ammo from Miami(?) Florida. American Ammo from FL is well........junk. Shooting buddy gave me a partial box of that stuff...wouldn't function in his Mil-Spec Springfield, just barely worked in my KP-90 Ruger. FTF, FTE, very inconsistant recoil and noise.

the 45ACP is DUR-TEE!
i only use the CCI SPEER lawman now. the total metal jacket cuts down the fouling due to the base being covered in copper so thier is no lead fouling.
i sell the stuff in the store for $14 a box. i think that compares to anyones clean factory stuff.
i tried the new AA a few weeks ago. they are using thier own brass now so i dont think they can be considered reloads. $9 a box of 50 aint bad for 45.

Feredral American Eagle ammo is great ammo and when your done shooting it you have just about the best cases made for reloading. This is reason alone to shoot this brand of ammo. It's been good factory ammo for me, after all thats all that Federal makes is ammo. :D

I always prefer Federal American Eagle (Red Box) along with CCI Speer Lawman for 9mm, .40, and .45 A bit more expensive for range use but trouble free. I also like CCI Blazer and Fiocchi.
Winchester White Box and UMC are pretty reliable but very dirty. PMC is okay too but it too is a bit dirty but not as bad as Winchester White Box and UMC.

I've had good success with American Eagle .357 and .44 magnum ammunition. It seems more consistent than some brands.

"Since being acquired by Alliant Techsystems (ATK) in December 2001, the brand has enjoyed renewed vigor. Federal and its sister brands (CCI, Speer, Outers, RCBS, Estate Cartridge Company, Alliant Powders, Orbex, Ram-Line, Champion Target, Weaver, Simmons and Redfield) are being marketed like never before."
I wish they'd update their site.
They may be marketing stuff like never before, but the ammo isn't the same. They have stopped making top-of-the-line .22 target ammo and I don't have any use for them anymore.

However, when I purchased my AR, I called ammoman.com and ordered a thousand rounds of Federal American Eagle. 500 55gr FMJ's and 500 50gr hollow points. It was the cleanest, shiniest ammunition I've ever purchased. Every round was fine. And, I ALWAYS left the range with a goofy grin on my face.
The only reasons I don't use FAE in handguns is that I prefer Hydra-Shoks or RBCD's.

Let me put it this way: while at a local FFL just Tuesday, a man walked in said he wanted a good 9mm. The dealer instantly [for some insane reason] shoved a High Point into his hands and immediately started talking about how great they were! Now understand me, this dealer has the largest handgun selection in the Knoxville area. Then while the paperwork was going thru, the customer asked, what kind of ammo do you recommend and the answer was.....red box.
Oh brother, I nearly fainted.:fire:

I have gone thru quite a few thousand of federal american eagle 115 grain loads in my glock 26 and never a problem. I find it more accurate than most brands.

I have found Federal American Eagle .45 calaiber AE45A to be excellent range practice ammunition. During the past nine months, I have fired approximately 6,600 rounds of it through six different 1911's.
I have not had a single failure with the American Eagles due to faulty ammunition. It is a good range practice round, consistent from box to box, accurate and fairly clean.
It is on a par with another of my practice ammos, S&B SBA04501 and in my subjective opinion, far superior to Winchester White Box, Magtech, CCI and PMC as a practice ammo.

I've used Federal American Eagle in both 9mm 124g, and 45acp 230 g. No feeding/ firing problems from a couple of hundreds of rounds in each; but I was surprised (and a little disappointed) to see that the 45 seemed to be much dirtier than the 9.

- - -For range ammo, when I don't have time to handload. No experience in other calibers.
I consider the Remington-UMC yellow box, the Win USA, and the American Eagle pretty much equal. I'd take any of these before Wolf, Armscor, or S&B. I'm also pretty fond of the Speer Lawman.
Carry ammo is another story, but I have no qualms about use of any of the big three in an old, non-throated Argentine Sistema 27.
Best,
Johnny

Whenever possible I try to shoot American Eagle or CCI Lawman at the range (9mm, .40, and .45). Accurate and pretty clean. Fiocchi's are a bit hotter and are fairly clean too. I esp. like their 9mm ammo. PMC UMC, and Winchester White Box work fine but they are dirty and a bit underpowered. I stay away from Winchester White Box in 115 grain 9mm. They've always caused me the most problems. Not a whole lot but there are better alternatives.
