I see Southern Ohio Guns has Star BM 9mm's for pretty cheap for "good to very good" condition.

Anyone have any experience with these? Does their definition of "good to very good" generally mean "needs cleaning", or "needs serious gunsmith work"?

Needs cleaning and maybe new grip panels.

Hi there Manedwolf,

I have owned two of them that I bought in Very Good condition.

They had some holster wear and were issued as carry handguns for the Spanish Police. Mechanically, they are in very good condition and are good shooters for the money.

A limited number of spare parts, which is a problem with Star Handguns, can be purchased through Numrich Arms. A bought a pair of beautiful Walnut Grips for mine and a spare firing pin for less than $30.00.

Should you decide to purchase one, do not dry fire it as it batters and weakens the firing pin and can lead to premature firing pin failure.

And no worries about dry-fires. I've never been in the habit of doing that without a snapcap in there anyway!

For those of you that have one, how small is the BM? I was under the impression that it is sort of a 1911-clone. Any ideas how it compares in size to a 1911, or even small 9mms like the Kahr?

The BM is a nice pistol about 80% of the size of a 1911 and 85% of the weight.
Real nice shooters.

SOG is not my favorite supplier but they are pretty much the only ones who have any left.
