TX Carry in Bexar Co. Tax Assessor's Office?

Today I went into the Office of the Tax Assessor-Collector (at 6812 Bandera, for those of you who live in SATX) to register a used car that I bought, and staring at me from the doorway as I approached is a big 30.06 sign. As it happens, I wasn't carrying at the time, so it really didn't affect me directly. Oh, BTW, they have some old dude there in a uniform (I doubt that he's a cop, except of the rent-a- type).
HOWEVER, I'd love to know whether any other TX residents out there believe that it is fully legal to carry in that office, notwithstanding the sign. FYI, the office is in a large strip mall where there are no other county offices, or even offices of any other governmental entity. There is most certainly NOT a courtroom on the premises. I believe this to be a county office, and since there's no courtroom on the premises, the powers-that-be can't legally stop any CHL holder from carrying a concealed handgun on the premises.
Am I correct? If so, I'd like to get that sign (and any like it at other county offices) taken down, which I think would be a lot easier if several/many of us let the right people know about this. Who should be approached - the County, or the state DPS office that deals with CHLs, or someone else?

The Tarrant County (Fort Worth) tax assessors office is posted with a 30.06 sign as well.
When I first saw it though, it was partially obstructed buy the hours of operation sign.
I believe they can put up a 30.06 sign just because they want to. For example, all the Mills Malls are posted 30.06.

My understanding is that this office, not being private property, cannot simply post a 30.06 sign at will. Wasn't there an update to the CHL statute that now permits one to carry on/in county and municipal property, so long as there's no court or court office on the premises (and, obviously, the place can't be a polling place, the interior of a school, etc.).? I thought that this became effective on 9/1/04, so that we can now carry in municipal and county parks and office buildings (again, provided that no court or court office is there).

I saw the 30.06 sign posted at the local Texas Workforce Commission (the unemployment office :( ), and asked about it. I was told that they justify it due to the fact that the office is partially funded by Federal money, so they did not have to comply with the new TX laws about state offices and CHL.

There is a law prohibiting publicly owned premises from being put off limits to CHL. However, there are still many local governments that are resisting that law - parts of Houston and Austin IIRC. You need to contact TSRA so they can bring the heat if it is applicable.
I can't think of any exceptions for a tax assessor if it is not in a courthouse though...

I just sent an email to the TSRA. I'll let everyone know the results. Thanks for all of your input.

Update. I got an email from the TSRA, and was told that they'd contact our County Clerk (I provided the contact info) because the posting of the 30.06 sign is in error.

Good news! Just goes to show how a little phone call can help secure better rights for everyone.

Anyone know where I can find information regarding this kind of thing for Louisiana? I know that governmental buildings and such are off-limits and honestly I have never seen a sign ever posted ANYWHERE around here that says you can't bring a sidearm inside, but I just want to know what the law states around here in case I run into one.
