Bought a Llama .380 automatic in 1973, since I was 18 I thought it was legal.
Got a call as soon as I got home. The gunshop owner said hey, you're not 21. I didn't know I had to be 21 to own a pistol. He didn't look that close at my birthday.
Luckily my wife at the time was 21. So she went down and fixed the paperwork so she bought it.

Old threads never die...;)
I had to call my Dad to ask a question or two about this one.
My 9th birthday, March something 1964, I got money.
I wanted...a GUN.
Dad and I looked through the Montgomery Wards catalog and found... an SMLE MkIII No.1 for $11.00 or $14.00 (He can't remember which either). Two weeks later it arrived at our house. The ugliest, greasiest, smelliest, heaviest most beautiful thing in the world. I had cosmoline all over my hands, clothes and cheek before Dad could stop me.
Before dinner we were in the basement at his workbench (he was a machinist/gunsmith) with the kerosene pot and scrub brushes, screwdrivers, etc.
It wasn't a Springfield in 30-06, but some weird pug nosed looking "British" thing that shot a ???.303??? but it was mine. Before I could shoot it, I had to show him I could handle it and do the whole Port Arm, Right Shoulder Arm thing. He said he's got a picture of me somewhere doing that... he and Mom thought it was cute.
Still got it  Its the birthday gun.

A Marlin .44 Magnum 1894 lever action that I bought at K-Marts for $99 (1970's, on sale). I decided on the .44 magnum after doing research (I was going to do this right) on the cost of factory ammo. A box of .44 magnum went for $7 while a box of everthing else went for $9, rifle ammo was way too expensive. Only after I bought the Marlin and went to the range and picked-up a box of .44 magnums did I realize that all pistol ammo boxes do not contain the same amount of ammo. Of course the .44's only had 20 rounds in the box and everything else came with fifty rounds. I started reloading shorty thereafter.:D

Summer of 1995. Glock 24P.
Told the guy that I liked the glocks and wanted something that punched holes in paper really well. They had a 23 and a 24P. The 23 had a laser installed and was almost $200 more and not at all what I wanted. He thought it was cool and kept trying to convince me I "needed" the laser.
I put the gun up and said "Yep, goes right where the sights do. I'll use the sights and save myself a few hundred dollars."
Love that gun. Still one of my favorites to shoot. Had 3 people offer to buy it from me, but not at a reasonable price considering I can't replace it. Out of production since the 34 and 35 came out and all.

S&W model 39 in 1977. First time out with it my girlfriend got tired of watching me shoot stuff at 20 ft and walked a coke bottle out to ~20 yds. I figured if i was going to miss i was going to miss with style so i drew and fired a DA first shot...blew the middle out of that bottle so cleanly that the top fell into the bottom. I blew smoke out of the barrel just like in them westerns and calmly reholstered it all the while praying that she wouldn't ask me to do it again.

The Year, The Weapon
I first started shooting way earlier than this with way better weapons but the first one I ever bought with my very own money was in 1974 right after I got out of the army and was a student at Texas A&M University. It was a 22LR Bolt Action with 22" or 24" barrel (I don't remember the brand). I used it for target shooting. There was a rather large and deep gully near the Texas Speedway in Bryan/College Station I used to go to. I shot it at paper bullseye targets and tin cans. [sniff] ahhhh crap now I'm getting all misty eyed thinking about it. I'll probably have to go get me 22 now (haven't fired one of them for years but this time it'll be a good one like maybe a Kimber - yeah that's the ticket - you bastard - my wife will be cursing your name - she doesn't understand why I've got so many guns now!)

We had just moved to Moosecreek, Alaska during the pipeline rush....I was 15 and more or less in charge of my younger siblings in the boonies while my parents worked everyday in Fairbanks.
I worked all summer pressure cleaning wrecked Alyeska construction equipment to be repaired to afford my pair of Rugers.
Took my a while to decide, but I ended up with a Ruger .44 magnum carbine as my beat around in the bush gun and my first handgun, a Ruger standard auto 4.75 inch. Learned alot about shooting with those two guns!!
Lost both in a fire three years later.
