I'm home because CMP wants a signature. Okay, I can handle that.
I'm getting impatient, so I open the front door to see if maybe, just maybe, they left it without getting me to sign...
OH NO!!!!! Look.....

That look like a lot of Tung oil. I got some yesterday that I ordered from Behr. I just got a quart. It was packed in lots of very absorbent material in case it leaked which it didn't. Only $10 & change for a quart including Fedex ground shipping. I was going to go outside and put it on my recently received 1903A3 stock but reading the directions, it said not to apply in temps less than 55 degrees. I'll wait till this weekend when I can do it during the day when it's warmer.

what do I have to do to be eligible to buy ammo from them (the CMP)?

Ziadel,
Easy, actually.
1. Find a CMP-affiliated organization and join it.
http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/clubSearch.cgi
2. Go to the CMP e-store and create an account, which gets you a user ID and password,
3. Send them a photocopy or scan of your affiliated club membership card or letter.
4. Place your order.
For example, I joined the NC Rifle and Pistol Club in February because I thought I would be getting a Garand from CMP (I didn't, getting it from a private seller instead.) So, I got the user ID/password at the CMP store, emailed them a scan of my membership card, and ordered the ammo.

I've noticed UPS has gotten really bad about leaving stuff that's marked 'signature required' on the porch, and boxes getting really banged up.

I wish the CMP sold that stuff in smaller lot sizes. I'd like to try some Lake City.
How does the Greek ammo shoot? I've been impressed with the non-corrosive Korean PS I got from AIM.

Or just leaving boxes on the side of the house w/o even leaving a note on the door. Just by chance, I discovered two boxes on the side of my house that UPS delivered yesterday. No note, nothing. Good thing I live in a good neighborhood, because one of the boxes contained my new Yaesu FT-7800R ham radio and power supply.

I have some PS ammo as well. I would say the Lake City ammo is a little better, IMHO. Not sure if I can quantify that though.
I do want to buy some Greek stuff one of these days. I like the sealed cans and clips/bandoliers. I can keep those as back up storage.

Hmmm.....so you don't have to shoot in a match to buy ammo from CMP? Just join a CMP club?

Not sure about ammo, but you need a shooting activity to buy a rifle from the CMP. Any class or instruction that involves actual range time shooting qualifies for that. My CHL class qualified. Prior military service will do it. Over 60 exempts you I think.
Once I ordered a rifle and had my login to their online sales site, I can order ammo online without mailing anything.

I shot some yesterday, along with some Lake City from CMP.
The Greek was noticeably more powerful (about a 30% increase in recoil, it seemed to me).
This was the first time shooting my Garand that I recieved from the CMP months ago.
What a blast!

Test rifle 5.6mil HRA.
LC67 average velocity: 2650 fps
HXP67 average velocity: 2860 fps
Measurement taken 10ft from muzzle
The M2 LC stuff from the 60s down is pretty mild stuff. They dumbed down the load.

OK, using ocabj's numbers, 8%.
Never said my shoulder had been calibrated lately. :D
Let me put it this way: when I fired the LC, I just blasted away; with the Greek, I noticed a kick in the shoulder, and had to spend more time to reacquire the target.
Anyways, a rockin' fun time for this Garand noob.
Now I just need a spotting scope...

Yup. When I first received the Greek HXP stuff and fired a round, I immediately noticed the extra kick. I fired a few more rounds and they were the same. That's the only reason I bothered to setup the Chrony that day.
As far as it affecting my shooting, it didn't bother me at all as opposed to LC. We ended up using this stuff at the CMP Western Games last month. I shot a 275-1x with it. I found the HXP to be more accurate than LC, too.

Depending on how busy the CMP is, it usually doesn't take more than 2 weeks from the time to order (online) to the time of delivery. It's shipped via FedEx Home Delivery with signature required (no signature release), so an adult has to sign for it, and they won't hold for pickup until 3 failed attempts.

I prefer this type :) It's what I got. It's a bit more per round but you have all those spare clips to fill up later with the cheaper stuff. :)
