Yesterday took my canoe with 2hp motor, cruised up in the backwaters, found a creek inlet, went up it a hundred yards or so, went over a beaver dam, on the back side of the enclosed area where the small creek ran into it were deer tracks that looked like a rototiller had been used, they are crossing from one thickly wooded hill across the low spot up to bedding area on the other side. I went up about 25 yds and found three large pine trees that looked like someone had skinned them from about 2' above the ground to at least a foot over my head (I'm 5'10"). There were also groove marks dug into the tree with resin present. I'm going back on Saturday. Any suggestions how to hunt this?

No, this is a very bad situation, much too dangerous. Please send me the GPS coordinates, a Alabama Non-Res Hunting Licence and Non-Res Buck tag. :D
Find a nice downwind spot that overlooks the trail, get there early and stay late. Be patient.
Good luck.

How difficult is it (or how motivated are you) to get in or out of this place in the dark?

Awesome man...that's one of the most exciting ways to hunt...when you see the signs of the big boy and you know he's there....just you and him. Great!
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, have been out there twice. Went Friday and yesterday. They came down Friday but crossed out of view, saw one right at dark yesterday but no way to get a good shot. It was simply too late. If weather allows will go back this evening. I can get in and out in the dark but that means a 40 minute canoe ride up a rather narrow tree congested deadfall infested creek in the dark. Not a good idea this time of year. Am considering a campout at a nearby island. That way I can get climbing stand set up day before and paddle in with canoe very quietly before daylight.
