Hi, All:
Some time back, on one of the forums, there was a formula for a black powder cleaning fluid. It was called Red something. does anyone remember what that formula was called and what the formula was? I would like to get a good formula for a black powder cleaner. I had a good one, back when I was shooting black powder, but that has been twenty years ago, and I have lost it, along with about everything else I can't remember. I am just getting back into muzzle loading, and need to update my needs, for shooting, and cleaning up after. :confused:

Ed's Red is equal parts automatic transmission fluid, kerosine, mineral spirits, and acetone. Lanolin added if rust protection is needed.

I don't know how effective a BP cleaner it would be, most folks want something with water in it. There is a version with water soluble cutting oil and some water in it for corrosive primers that might work ok.

A common BP formula is equal parts Murphy's Oil Soap, rubbing alcohol, and drugstore hydrogen peroxide. Actually contains over 40% water.

Peroxide is a BAD idea. It is an oxidizer. In the presence of steel makes Iron Oxide A.K.A RUST.
