T/C Encore questions

A few questions:
It is my understanding that if I buy an encore that started life as a handgun, I can put a long barrel and rifle stock on it and use it as a rifle, then take the stock and barrel off, and make it a pistol again. But I can't take a encore frame that started life as a rifle and put a handgun grip on it and a short barrel. Right?
If I buy a handgun frame and have multiple handgun barrels, can I also own a rifle frame (with proper length barrels), or would that potentially get me in trouble for having the parts to assemble a short barreled rifle?
Thanks

1. You can put a rifle stock and rifle barrel on an Encore receiver that started life as a pistol.
2. I don't believe you can legally put a handgun grip and pistol barrel on an Encore receiver that started life as a rifle.
3. You can have all the short barrels laying around that you like suitable for assembling a short barreled rifle as long as you do not assemble a short barreled rifle.

i donot own an encore but i was under the impression that as long as you never assemble the frame with a shoulder stock and a bbl. shorter than 16" you are leagle. but better to check thanto be sorry.

Grumulkin,
3. You can have all the short barrels laying around that you like suitable for assembling a short barreled rifle as long as you do not assemble a short barreled rifle.
I've heard it said that those who have registered M16s shouldn't have extra full-auto fire control groups lying around if they also have non-registered, semi-auto, AR15s as the extra sears, disconnecters, etc., could be assembled along with the AR15 to create a machine gun. Are short barreled rifles treated differently?
Thanks again,
Nate

It's cool as long as you don't actually build an SBR. You can do some reading on the topic here Greybeard Outdoors (http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/index.php) There is a forum just for Contenders, and Encores

Not legal advice, but everyone in my family that owns an Encore (4 or 5), was told when they got the gun that if they wanted to build it as a pistol, they had to have the pistol model.

I found some reading for you to do.
On June 8, 1992, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Contender pistol and carbine kit are not a short-barreled rifle under the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. §5845(a)(3). This means that a consumer may possess the pistol with its 10" barrel and may use the kit parts to make a rifle with the 21" barrel, as long as the shoulder stock is not assembled onto the receiver at the same time as the 10" barrel.

Buzztail nailed it (as I understand).
Only way I could see you being in trouble was if you had several pistol barrels and a stock. Yet, no rifle barrel. Might not send you to jail, but wouldn't be a good idea.
I have no stock for mine, or rifle barrels for that matter. However, if I got a stock I would be getting a barrel ASAP.
I don't really like it in rifle set-up so never bothered with it.
