Hey there folks I got an older Springfield WW2 GI that the finish is getting real worn. I am looking for an way to refinish it my self. I would love to re Parkerise it or better yet use that Dura Coat or Armory COat. Any folks have any experiance in this. Is it something a home use could do?

Thanks
Chuck

If it is an older model, I wouldn't refinish it... it'll lose alot of its value... is it rusty, excessively worn or pitted? If you decide to refinish it, spend the money and have it parkerized to restore it to as close as possible to its original state... If you are gonna mess with refinishing yourself, get an old h&r revolver or another beater gun and practice...

I work part-time at a local gun store refinishing pistols... The 'smiths have tools, tricks, and tanks that ensure the pistol with look, feel, and operate as it once did...

failing that, send some pics of the gun, or post 'em... if it's an old ww2 model, I bet somebody would give you a nib springfield 1911a1 in trade...

where are you at? the shop I work at blues, parkerises, and nickels guns... spend a little $$$; you won't be dissapointed...

Naw she isn't an old one. Only built 3 years ago. But it is my daily carry and I made an error and used a Kydex holster for a while. That and NM's dusty climate did a job on the finish.Went back to my Bianchi Shadow and life is happier for her. Just looking to make it lok good again.

Here's my SA GI model after refinishing at Robar.

I also had them install LPA adjustable target sights.

I just got finished doing a 410 pump with the Duracoat looks great don't know how good it will hold up. it takes 4 weeks to dry all the way to its hardest. good thing about the stuff is you don't have to bake it in a oven. but they do want at least a 1mil thick coat on the firearm so that may be a little thick for your springfield. I want to try brownells gunkote the next time I do a firearm. would love to hear from someone that has tried gunkote and if they liked it or not.

Thanks for the tips folks. I ordered 2 cans of Gun Koat. One flat black and the other OD green. Plus a new set of Hoage Lamo Camo grips is on the way. I'll post before and after pics/
