I have a couple of pairs of their boots, and a pair of their sandals. I find them very comfortable.

I love Merrills, I've had two or three pairs over the years. There is cavaet however, I would not buy or use them as light hunting boots. Especially not in dry grass lands or shrub covered terrain, as the current soles are exceptionally noisy. Other than that, they are my second favorite boots.

I found a pair of Oxford shoes that may fit my criteria for tactical dress shoes. Goretex, baby, like heck I'm going to compromise my tacticality when dressed to oppress!

Skunk, have you considered the now-discontinued Danner Edgewood oxfords? Available in tactical black or conventional brown, Gore-Tex liner and Danner stitch-down construction.
Danner discontinued them last year but I believe you can still find some at Danner dealers. I have two pairs (one black, one brown) and I still don't understand why they discontinued them.

You may also consider Rocky's FirstMed oxford:

Sorry, I did not know that was your intended use. I would not wear Danner Edgewoods with a suit.
It's a bit hard to see in that picture, but the outsole is a bit too thick and aggressive for a suit. The outsole is best described as an aggressive crepe design -- not lugged, but not a low profile crepe either. It's good for pavement and for light trail use. You want something low profile for a suit.
In addition, I don't like metal eyelets on shoes worn with a suit. The "Danner" logo is stamped into leather on the back of the shoe, which also makes it less appropriate for a suit.
The dress code in my office is business casual so the Edgewoods work fine for me. But I would not wear them with a suit. I tend to stick with very non-tactical wingtips or plain captoe shoes for suits.
