The manufacture of the pistol formerly known as the SIG P210 (http://www.livejournal.com/users/larvatus/33732.html) has been stopped (http://www.shn.ch/) by its current manufacturer, Swiss Arms Neuhausen (SAN). Also known for making the successor of the renowned SIG 550 assault rifle series, SAN has announced its plans to lay off 70 of its current 109 employees. It will concentrate its business on manufacturing military assault rifles.

Nice gun, but crazy expensive. What was it, $6K-$8K? I want one, but for that kind of cash, I can get a bunch of really good guns and ammo.

Recent LNIB SIG P210 online auction sale prices for the pistol with (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=39145782) and without (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=40874056) a .22 l.r conversion kit: $2,675.00 and $1,845.00, respectively. These prices compare favorably to the going rates for limited production M1911 clones from Wilson, Les Baer, Ed Brown, and SVI.

I think the relatively new SIG X-Five will take its place. From what I can tell -- haven't seen one in person or shot one -- its a very competent gun, and perhaps a good successor.

Thats really sad. Almost the feeling you get when yo hear an old favorite actor has passed away. I really liked the P210 and was hoping to get one when money was a reality someday, guess I'll be sticking to the used market.

I am sad whenever any gun is no more. SIG 210 just never impressed me as being worth the price. I have to lump the H&K PM7 in that group as well. Nice guns but not 3-4 times nicer than some others.

Having owned two Sig 210 pistols and foolishly allowing them to slip away, I can lament the passing of this pistols span of production.

The guns were worth every penny and I made money when I sold them.

The P210 is one of the classiest pistols I think I've ever seen. Every aspect of it is of the highest quality. This past fall, I came very close to going for one. as nearly there when a change of heart got me to look at a lesser expensive model (HK Elite) While I know it's not in the highest class of the P210, It'll suit my needs. Still... had I known this then...:(

I will forever kick myself for passing on a new one 12 years ago for only 900.

The P-210 is a great gun, but...

I'm a past owner of a P-210-6, which I bought NIB. The 210-6 was supposed to come with a match-grade trigger, and it was a great trigger. It was a great gun, but it had some weak points, too.

1) Capacity. (8+1 in a 9mm?) That single-stack mag was expensive. (See below.)

2) Ergonomics: Safety hard to release and very small; hammer bites some hands badly, european-style mag release. If you wanted to change mags quickly, it took a LOT of practice -- the single stack mags just called out for a magwell that was larger, and it wasn't there.

3) Sights (unless you had the adjustable ones) were small and had sharp edges. I've bled more than once during an IDPA match; just racking the slide could draw blood, until I took the sharp edges off with a file.

4) The mags were expensive ($70-$80), and followers alone cost more than most mags ($25). And try to find grips. Or different sights.

The newer P-210-8 had many of those shortcomings corrected, but at a very high price ($), but it was still an 8+1 gun. In 9mm that's weak.

One plus -- things didn't break or wear much on these guns. They were generally true SERVICE pistols made for a long service life.

While mine was a very, very accurate gun, I've got several other guns that came close in accuracy and had greater capacity. The SIG was very well made, like the proverbial swiss watch -- but there are alternatives that are almost as good, but much, much less costly.

I also had a S&W 52-2 that was the SIGs match in every respect but capacity and had an equally good trigger (better in some respects).

From a rest, I've got a Browning HP, a CZ-75B SA, and a customized AT-84s that would shoot with similar accuracy out to 20 yards, but I'd give an edge to the P-210-6 beyond 20 yards; I have shot it at greater distances with results that were impressive (when I could see the damned target).

If I had the money and had the choice of an P-210 and the X-Five, I'm pretty sure my money would go for the X-Five.
