Inexpensive 9mm Ammo
DontShootMe

Okay, Wally World (Wal-Mart) has the ULTIMATE deal on the winchester 'value pak' for 10.96 - 100 rounds of 9mm
It seems that in my area, once the shipment comes in, it's GONE within 15 minutes and I cant get any! I've seen guys walking out with big smiles carrying 2 CASES (2000 rounds) of these. Of course as I walk up to the sporting goods counter, the guys says, oh yeah, we just sold our last of winchester 9mm 2 minutes ago!
:banghead:
Does anyone know of a website or something that can come close to Wally World prices for 9mm ammo? (including shipping?)
Somebody help me please!

If you use that little search button at the top left of your screen, you can find out about a lot of things such as where to get cheaper ammo. You might also reference www.thefiringline.com and Glocktalk as well. Search on terms such as cheap ammo, range ammo, practice ammo, lowest price ammo, best price ammo.

Out Door Source (http://outdoor-source.com) has S&B for about $5.50 per box (in case lots). Shipping and handling dependent on location.
S&B is about the hottest 9mm in a low cost roung, approximating +P velocity and energy. I have shot a bunch of it without any problems through a Ruger P95 and a Glock 26.

Sounds like me. :p What did I do? I wrote them a nasty letter complaining about how "shocked" I was they couldn't keep this item in stock even though they knew it sells fast. I also complained about the condition of the sporting goods section and how many times I go by when they don't have any. I also make it a point to call and complain. They've since improved greatly. Save on the shopping online and order what you want from them and have it put on hold under your name, and tell them to call when it comes in so you can pick it up.

Ihad tht problem. Then I started shopping around to diff't Walmarts...ones near work, near home, on the way home from work, on the way home from the range. Finally found 2 that keep ammo in stock...one's a ghetto store that takes names & personal info for their local PD when you buy ammo, so I don't buy there ;)

I don't have that problem at my local wally world. They almost always have at least 10 boxes on the shelf. I picked up only 4 boxes today.

Winchester USA in white box 9mm jhp for 10.97 box at wal-mart is about the best ammo/price you will find for defensive 9mm load

I am loading my own 9mm, very much the same as the winchester white box (only much cleaner) for less than $3.5 per box, $7 per hundred. I can load it when I need/want it, never have to look for it, and can get 20-2000 depending on my mood.
The loader can be paid for with the savings on 9mm loads within 3500 rounds EASILY and that is paying for the best loader on the planet, anything else and the payoff comes MUCH earlier. You are gonna shoot 3K rounds, you are gonna buy guns in different calibers and you are gonna take it in the shorts for ammo for your new gun too if you don't buy the equipment now.
Just an opinion, but man you cannot justify buying practice ammo IMO.

Like Roadrunner, I get great deals from Natchez on 9mm. They quite often have sales on FMJ.

Centerfire Systems in KY has 115 grain 9mm made by PMP of South Africa for$99/1000. The Web address is www.centerfiresystems.com.
I shot a couple thousand PMP rounds using a BHP, a Colt 9mm Combat Commander and a 9mm subgun. It worked fine.
I don't like to reload 9mm so I can't justify doing so when factory ammo is available at this price. I still save the brass though.

I get Russian made milspec 9mm for $4.75 a box of 50 from Midway Arms.
Beats the crap out of Wally World (which I try to avoid on principle anyway).

There's an Academy store near to where I live that sells Blazers for $3.99 a box. About three weeks ago, I was in South Texas and the Academy store I check out had the same ammo for $5.99. Needless to say, I buy as much as I can afford whenever I'm near the one in my neighborhood. :D geegee

I bought that Hungarian "Lake City" (trademark) 9mm at gun shows for about that and their .45 for around $98 per 500. You can get cheaper, but not (IMHO) much better. FMJ, though.
Word of advice, though. Use cheap ammo for practice, but get the best you can for carry and shoot enough of it to make sure it works in your gun. And don't take anyone's word on reliability for any ammo. If your buddie says it works fine for him, and it doesn't work for you, you will have the problem. He can apologize with flowers, but you won't be able to smell them.

www.miwallcorp.com has some very competitive prices
Nothing beats handloading though ;)

Wow, you guys are great! Thanks a bunch for the info.
The cheapest I have found the CCI Blazers has been 5.87 per 50, which is a tad higher then the 'value pak' but not much more. I have noticed that the Blazers burn a little cleaner than the value paks though. Less residue on the gun after a day at the range.
Mastrogiacomo, great idea about having them hold a case (or two ;) ) think i'm gonna try that one.
Oh yeah, for those of you who load, how much time does it take to load, let's say 50 rounds? just curious...

$5.86 for a 50rd box of CCI Blazer 115gr from Walmart
that makes it 38 cents more expensive for 50 rounds and $7.60 per case
it seems worth it for the extra accuracy that the CCI can achieve

I dunno about the CCI blazer stuff being more accurate.
I have done lots (LOTS!!!) of ransom rest testing with Win USA, CCI, Mil spec stuff, and a variety of premium defensive ammos.
In general the Win USA and the CCI Blazer are the dregs of the bunch, with American Eagle a little better, followed by the brown box mil spec stuff, and then, with a huge lead, all of the major brand defensive stuff.
FWIW, the Win USA bulk pack is plenty relible, and plenty accurate for IDPA, IPSC or plates.
With the wally world stuff at about 11.00 per hundred, my time is too valuable to bother with reloading. I don't consider volume reloading to be a fun activity.

If I shoot CCI in my G26 I get at least 1 and as many as 4 FTE per 10 rounds, I also have the same problems with the shot shells.

I can do better than that with my .45 ACP reloads.

On my Dillon RL550B it takes about five minutes to load 50 rounds.

be honest blades...does that include loading primer tubes, filling the powder hopper, making sure the powder charge is right, checking the OAL, etc etc?

For the reloading skeptics, there about about a zillion "is it really worth it?" threads in the archives here, at TFL, rec.guns, and indeed just about every internet gun forum.
Buying components in bulk, and using a good progressive press, you can turn out a hundred rounds of 9mm in 20 minutes for about $7 (or less). That 20 minute estimate includes filling primer magazines and setting your charge weight. If you use cast bullets or make your own it can get cheaper still.
So the question is, is your 20 minutes, plus the cost of equipment, and the time spent learning it and developing loads, worth $4 per hundred rounds plus control over your loads? For me the answer is, "sometimes". If I up and decide to go shooting and I'm low on 9mm, I'll hit Wal-mart. If I know I'm going tomorrow, I'll load some rounds myself. It's also nice to be able to produce 9mm loads that feel like .22's.
If you're at the point where you can outshoot crappy ammo, then handloading is no longer an option, it's a necessity. Buying premium rounds for $12-$25 per 50 sucks compared to loading equivalently accurate ammo for $6 per 50 or less. But, this is not a concern for all of us (certainly not for me!).

I load at about 350 per hour for 9mm. That IS including all necessary steps like primer tubes and powder and quality checks etc. 45ACP is substantially faster for me as well, but 350 per hour is plenty. For a run of 100 rounds the time can be substantially less, as in under 10 minutes easily, but that is not a realistic number IMO as it does not represent true production numbers. If I am going shooting and figure I am low on ammo I can go downstairs and come up in one hour with 150 9mm AND 150 45 acp, fresh loaded. Caliber conversion, powder measure moved and all of that. It isn't that hard.
BTW, I load on a 550B as well, and 9mm is second slowest of 7 calibers. I can load 308 as fast......

I reload for every caliber that I shoot except for .380 cause I dont shoot it very often. I have loaded for 9 in the past and still do. However, here, or on some other board, I heard about Academy Sports and real cheap Blazers. My hunting buddy lives in Dallas and a couple of years ago he brought a case of Blazers to me in South Dakota. I go to Talladega twice a year and pass by a couple of Academy stores. Last year I brought home 5600 rounds and yesterday it was 3000. Many of my 9's are shot in a Sig and a Glock and they really dont like lead. For $3.99 per box I will shoot the Blazers and not worry about the empties.
