Winchester 1300 issue...

Ok, I guess I've finally broken down and have to ask for some assistance. I have a Winchester 1300 Black Shadow pump that loves Winchester ammo, but hates Remington, Federal and Estate (haven't tried any others...). When I cycle the action, I usually get 2 rounds stacking in the bottom of the receiver. It's like the magazine catch doesn't grab the rim of the second.

I measured the bases and found that there is about a 1 mm difference in diameter, with Winchester being larger.

Has anyone else had this issue and, if you corrected it, how? The state gives me all of the 12 ga ammo I need, but I hate this issue during instruction...

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a worn shell catcher, though there might be just grunge keeping it from moving freely.

The 1300s I've shot have all worked 100%.

Get it to a smith if cleaning behind the catcher doesn't fix it......

This has happened since day one. The catch doesn't look like it's been worn enough to do this... I guess I'' have to take it to a smith. I was hoping I wouldn't have to.

Yup, time for a smith, IMO....

I bought a 1300 for my father-in-law to shoot some trap with me once in awhile and he has put Remington STS and Winchester AA reloads through it without a problem.

I would suggest having it looked at.

i have a Winchester 1300 Defender, and it's worked with any ammo i've tried (Winchester, Remington, Federal, Estate, S&B, etc). I'll agree with Dave and say it needs a professional opinion.

Gun most likely made it out of the factory with a misdimensioned shell catcher.
Winchester/USRA tends to testfire their shotguns and rifles with Winchester/Olin made ammunition.
If the gun is brand new, send it back for warranty repair.
if it isn't brand new, send it back anyway, you may be suprised how quickly and well Winchester handles the issue.

Oddly enough, a friend that owns a gun shop has one that went through a 12/20 burst. He's gonna give me the parts and I'll try it again. He just wanted the barrel to show what can happen. The mag tube is a little messed, but the action is in great condition and so is the catch.

Gee, my Win 1300 owners manual reccomends you use Winchester ammo:rolleyes: but this is getting rediculous! Seriously though, Winchester ammo does seem to be quite good, especialy the trap loads they put out.

FWIW, in a book about combat shotgun useage, Mas Ayoob says that Winchester shotgun ammo seems to be the best of the bunch. One thing I don't like about it though if I remember is that the standard 2 3/4" 12 and 20 gauge shells do not come with copper plated buckshot loads which I like to use sometimes, only the magnum 3" versions do.

The limited amount and variety of ammo through my 1300 has been fine but I will try some more types and brands soon and see what happens.

I prefer Winchester ammo, but the NYSDEC issues Estate for the classes. It wasn't until I went hunting with a friend and found I forgot slugs that I found Remington did the same...

Well, I swapped out the retainer... no luck. When I get a financial cushion, I'll take it to a smith. Oh well....
