Prosecutor presses two charges:
- Deliberate murder
- Wantonly reckless accidental homicide.
Jury convicts on the second.
Appeals court notes that there is no friggin' way it was accidental.
Since he was convicted for accidental homicide, and it obviously wasn't, the jury's verdict is thrown out.
And thus, the no-question-guilty-as-sin perp is let out.
