I hear this gangster slang all the time in rap. Does anyone actually know what a "four-four" gun is?

Maybe, but gangsters are more into nines, i think, and wouldn't be lugging a Ruger Redhawk around on the street.

I got my dog through the arrest of a scumbag who had a loaded handgun in his car...

A Ruger Blackhawk .357 with a 6" or so barrel.

That's the reason why my one dog is named Ruger.

TheOtherOne- I LOVE that movie! The soundtrack isn't as good unless you know the context of the movie. I love cruising to the song:

"I got my pistol pointed, cocked, ready lay shots non-stop until I see yo' monkey ___ drop!"

:p

A gat is short for Gatling. Supposedly when the first successful semi-autos came out in the 1890s they were said to fire as quickly as Gatling guns.

Normally a gat refers to a semi-automatic handgun, at least as I've always seen it used in older movies...

It was a 20's gangster term for the Thompson sub-machine gun. Melted ice cube talk is after my time.:D
