I have three of the Bushnell Holosights which are pretty much the same thing as the Eotech without the metal shroud. They are great for fast target acquisition.

The EOTech is what I have. I love it. Never tried an Aimpoint. I just bought the RRA rail with the iron sights and EOTech mount.
However, I have never been in combat so my opinion ain't worth too much. :)

EOTech is my 1st choice, does anyone have experience with C-More, Ive seen a few cool looking ones. Is durability an issue with that little stand alone looking lens?

I have both, but the Aimpoint is what I've used the most in service and what I'm using currently. The EoTech is a great sight, but when the fur starts the fly it's best to go with what you know.

I voted for the new Tri-Power, but it’s based on “potential” as I haven’t had it long enough to make a solid assessment. I’ve used both Eotechs, and Aimpoints and they’re both good solid optics. The Tri-Power has some very good features though:
Always on: no switches or batteries required for about 85% of my shooting requirements.
Chevron reticle: which seems to have a better capability for accuracy than a dot while not compromising speed.
Fiber Optics: really do work well, and its automatic brightness adjustment makes transitioning from dark to light pretty easy.
Tritium illumination: now that I’m getting used to it, seems to work pretty well.
The only downsides I can see right now are the initial cost, and maybe the battery life of about 110 hrs. However, if I only need the battery for about 15% of my shooting it gives me an effective battery life of around 733 hours of use. It’s nowhere near as much battery life as an Aimpoint, but livable. :D

I've seen some of the special guys over here using a Schmidt and Bender Short Dot, a 1-5x scope that does double duty as a CQB and a middle range optic. At low power, it has a red dot but as you crank up the magnification on it, a set of crosshairs become visible and the red dot fades. I've read some posts from users on another forum and they think it's the heat. I'd love to have one, but at $2500 a piece, I reckon I'll wait awhile.

Or are commie optics excluded because they are too much bang for the buck?

what is your favorite 1x close quarters optic? if other, please tell me what your favorite is. let us know what you like about your favorite over other optics.
I voted for Aimpoint because it is my favorite, but what makes it my favorite is different from what you're asking for.
If I were to use an optic exclusively for close quarters combat (less than 25 yards, door to door, house clearing)..the EOtech is the winner hands down.
The EOtech rides low, has a good rectangular window with minimal obstruction giving it the best field of view. The other big factor, and perhaps the best feature is the large 65moa circle. You simply cannot miss with that. Place that big circle on the center of mass of any badguy and you'll hit. Beyond easy. Great concept.
However, I find the teeny tiny 1moa dot in the center to be worthless. A lot of folks love it because it lets them have a very precise dot for making long shots...My eye has a hard time picking it up quickly. That's why I like the Aimpoint better. It is a better optic for a wider range of uses in my opinion. Visually, you have to be able to focus in on the dot and aquire the target as quickly as possible. Aimpoint's 4moa allows me do this equally across the whole spectrum of ranges. 4moa is enough for a COM shot out to 200 yards, which for a rifle system that has an optic like this one it, is the max range I'd ever engage a target...having a 1moa dot isn't going to aid me in any way except for slowing down my target acquisition. This is all personal preference.
So my preference came down mostly to reticle style, with battery life being second. The Aimpoint's battery lasts approximately 10 years when on brightness setting #7. Even if the truth is that it's 1/2 that, that's still 5 years of continuous battery life. Amazing. :what:
Third factor was warranty. Aimpoint has a 10 year warranty, EOtech has a 2 year warranty.
As far as ruggedness. I can only go by internet testimonials and stories. I know that Aimpoint is military approved, so that's a big plus, EOtech is not. However, the EOtech is getting a LOT of use in Iraq, and while not officially .mil approved, it has pretty much earned the battle tested reputation. When reading stuff from firearms instructors, they say the Aimpoint is more reliable and less prone to failures than the EOtech. They say that the EOtech Rev F models have pretty much made them rock solid, but they are just shy of reaching Aimpoint type reliability.
I didn't weight this very much, because I won't be smashing my rifle into anything, bumping it around in a humvee, bumping into walls while clearing houses, bumping it against my chest gear all day long, dropping my rifle...I will never subject it to the amount of abuse that the Aimpoint or EOtech takes on a daily basis in real warfare. So it isn't an issue.
Bottom line, it is better to have an optic than to not. It has proven to make soldiers more accurate, faster, and more effective.
Just make sure you have a back up iron sight just in case. Murphy's law. ;)

no doubt.
beerslurpy, i got nothing against commie optics but i prefer to put them on commie guns. also, while i'm sure they're plenty reliable, they just don't have the reputation that the aimpoint and the eotech have and though the tripower hasn't seen alot of use yet, the company has a sterling reputation. btw, i didn't list the reflex ii because i already have one or the acog because i don't consider it appropriate for cqb.
the optic in question will be mounted on my lady friend's m4 style rifle which is her home defense rifle. obviously, the ultimate choice is up to her but i like to get as many perspectives as possible before committing. i'm leaning towards the tripower.

Okay, I missed the 1x part.
I'd just as soon use irons- and did. If you're going to have glass, might as well have some x power, I think.

I voted for EoTech. Like the 1 MOA dot and having a big reticle for close up and quick. Served me well in Iraq on convoys.

Aimpoint ML3, That's what I am using currently on my Oly Arms K3B. Very accurate. I have tight groups a 200yds with it. Have not taken it out to 300yds yet but it will be soon.

ACOG...used them in Iraq, no complaints. Good for target ID, checking out possible IEDs, scoping out suspicous windows, cars, doorways, etc, and it wasn't too bad for engaging either.;)
