Does anyone know what kind of pressure can 777 develope ?

777 gets quite abit of velocity compared to black powder or Pyrodex.
So I was wondering how it does that within the pressure ranges that are acceptable for black powder cartridges and muzzleloaders.

Thank you in advance.

Hi - a few of us here have noticed that 777 behaves differently than Pyrodex and BP when compressed... pressures go up, variance between shots goes up too. Mec's the most scientific in his testing, as he uses a chrono to observe mv, but FWIW I found that light compression is the best way in my .36 Colt repro, but that none at all made for some odd effects...

I'm of the opinion that some experimentation is worthwhile for the easy cleanup!

Season's greetings to all!

777 has produced some nasty crud rings in some guns.

Interesting.. I never heard that before. It just seems to wipe off with water on mine. Can you tell me more Rick?

Same here. I find it the easiest to clean of all the alternative powders I've tried.

same here as to clean-up and fouling build up while shooting. I have no reason to doubt the crud reports but personally have had more crud with other types. American Pioneer may be even easier to clean than 777 but it produces low velocities compared to the others.

Haven't clocked Goex Pinacle yet. Saw some at the Dallas gun show but failed to pick it up. If it ever gets here at all, it will probably take a few years.

The reason I ask is I tried a 50/50 777 pellet in my 56-50 Spencer. The 350gr Rapine bullet fit nicely on top of the pellet, although the pellet had some room around the sides of it.
1 shot Chronograph Result: 1356fps.

Wow.. that's over 1300ft/lbs of muzzle energy! I wouldn't like to be in the way of that...... ..

I'm only familiar with cap and ball revos and powder form 777, so cannot help from personal experience. I have read that 777 will produce 10-15% more energy per volume than BP/Pyrodex. Did you check the Hogdon site for further info?

There is little to no reloading data on the 56-50 Spencer cartridge, and none with 777.
