Got to brag about my wife ;)

Months ago, when I first went shopping for a handgun, my wife refused to even touch the things. She seemed to be a little afraid of them. I decided to not try and force her into anything, but let her decide when she was ready. I DID encourage her to understand that firearms are not dangerous if used properly, but a way to keep our family safe.

Several months later, our home was broken into. Nothing much stolen, just a couple of cell phones and some loose change, but it still gave my wife a feeling that she wasn't safe. Her outlook on handguns started to change.

When I got my CZ 75B, she handled it. It was a first for her, but she recognized that it wasn't the gun for her. She felt it was "to much". She wasn't sure what she meant but knew that it wasn't her style. A friend let her handle his Commander-sized Llama 1911 and she loved the way it felt.

Fastforward yet again to last night. We were discussing plans for how to deal with a home invasion. Basically the plan is for my wife and son to retreat into the safest room in the house (a bathroom). Once my wife has her own weapon, she's to take that and her cell phone and call the police while I deal with the threat.

We started talking about what-if's and one was if I was disarmed somehow and being used to get to them. While it may be unlikely, I still felt it would be a good idea to discuss these possibilities. We had worked out code words so she knew it was me and all was clear, so I added one that meant I was "not alone". One of the things I told her was, no matter what, not to give up her weapon. If they were going to kill us, make them pay for it...regardless of whether they had a gun to my head. Her response was "it won't matter if I put a round in their skull."

What I'm bragging about is how a woman who just months ago was scared of firearms has now decided to take up arms to defend her family, has stated a commitment to learning how to use those firearms proficiently, and understands their purpose. I still haven't had a chance to get her to a range (which I am NOT happy about), but I'm looking forward to seeing how she does!

Sorry, but I had to brag :D

Sounds like she made a decision! Great! make sure she gets all the range time and training she wants and needs to hone those skills more! My wife and I are jointly pursuing the same path, and we've enjoyed it a lot. She often outshoots me! Congratulations, and be careful!

Bragging is to share!

After she said that about putting one in the skull, she also said she had to learn how to do that. I know to many guys who would just assume they can!

To top this off, she told me a few minutes ago on the phone that she wants to be a bada$$ (sorry, but it's her words). She has told me she wants to learned unarmed combat techniques, as well has handgun skills and tactics. Looks like I'm about to spend some serious cash! And I don't mind ONE BIT :D

Congratulations. Really. There are far too many wives who are deadly scared about guns and the concept of guns --- but worst yet, they try to impose their rules on the husband's life. And put restrictions on husband's ability to defend the home.

Seems as if a little real world leaked and and she's ready to meet it!
Good on ya both;I wouldn't ask for better at my back than my wife
just a little prayer for both of us that its never tested! O and keep
her away from any carbines you got;being as wives tend to be practical
they tend to glom onto 'em real quick.

We had to reach an agreement about who's gun belongs to whom. Luckily, she won't take my CZ. As for carbines, I'm hoping we like different things in weapons so I can keep my babies :D

Mine is conservative on guns - let it be but don't wave it around, but she's into martial arts and sometimes practises on me (me willingly of course), damn it hurts :(

"it won't matter if I put a round in their skull."
I have my wife practice head-shots all the time. She keeps wanting to use pictures of me, but I refuse to let her. :D

Good on you Tomcat... get her trained.

One more of us is another one for the BGs to think about! I especially like the code words. My fiancee knows my "cold" word. If I don't use it, she is prepared and will open up when someone comes in the room.

It's my responsiblility to make good and sure I'm not the first one through the door...

If you want to try to prevent her from shooting your head off, get her some targets like the LE-10 and LE-25 targets that you can find here...

http://letargets.com/html/full_color.html

I bought some of these in the past, and Missashot likes shooting them. Sometimes, though, the kid gets a little unrulely, so she will take him out....or the woman is a prostitute and chose a street corner too close to the house. :uhoh: :D

I was talking to my wife last night about range time for the new year coming up and some of the new purchases I want to make....one of which is a handgun for her (since her dad misplaced the revolver he had given to her).

After telling her that I wanted her to go to the range with me a good deal this next year, she proceeds to say "as long as you dont care when i kick your butt on the range." I produced a large smile and said no problem and I look forward to the challenge.

Needless to say, I can't wait to buy her a firearm so we can get to the range and spend some "quality" time there!

I hadn't seen those targets! I'll definately get some of those for both of us to practice on! I like those better than the man-shaped sillouettes (sp?)

As for shooting the unruly kids, that might help my son remember to be good in school :D

Good for you and the whole family!

May you always have guns handy, and may you never need them.

Ok not trying to break the rules here but... On Gun Issues

They say the difference between a Liberal and a Conservative is just one mugging.

I am not saying your wife is a liberal just glad she learned the lesson the way you discribed.

Congratulations!!!
