Fla. Man Accused Of Killing Mother With Crossbow

PALM CITY, Fla. -- A Palm City man accused of killing his mother with a crossbow will be sentenced next month.
Bruce Neal pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. He has a long history of mental illness and describes himself as a "bipolar alcoholic."
The defense attorney said Neal underwent extensive evaluations but their expert concluded Neal didn't meet the legal standard of insanity.
The state attorney's office says it will recommend life in prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 25th.
Authorities said Bruce Neal had been fighting with his mother, Jean Neal, over her will. After taking a bike ride to cool down, authorities say he took a crossbow from the trunk of his car and shot a phonebook to impress his mother with its power.
He said when she wasn't impressed, he shot her in the chest. :eek:
