What is everyone's favorite sub-$400 autoloader?
I'm a big fan of the Ruger P-series, Springfield Armory XD series, and Steyr M series.

Mine are Beretta M21 and M3032- great little mouse guns, very accurate. My non-gun spouse even enjoys shooting them on occasion. Also the Firestorm .22LR is incredibly good value for the money.

Kel-Tec's, Hi-Point's, Bersa's and Ruger 22's.
As a matter of fact, I don't own any over $400.00 auto's. Or even $300.00 for that matter.

Hi there,
For personal defense and concealed carry, my choice is the Kel Tec P3-AT or P-11.
Both that I own are reliable and very concealable.
For plinking, the Ruger Mark II/III series.

Well I got my Ruger P94DC(.40 cal) at a gunshow for 380$ (stainless). I was out the door at 427$. I stopped counting at 3000 the number of rounds I've put through it. I've only had 3 misfires (bad cartidges). I shout a 6 or 7 in group at 25 yds with 10 rounds.
I love Ruger.
I want to get a 1911 now though.

Ruger is first on most of my lists, especially the KP90 and P95
Kahr is second but right at the limit. I was able to buy both my K9 and P9 each for $400 OTD. I suspose they really don't qualify for sub $400, but...
Makarov, both Russian and Bulgarian
Argentine Hi Power, WWII Hi Power
TZ 99 (now Charles Daley)
Kel-Tek P32
I have more favorites, but you get the idea. poppy

CDNN had Steyr M9s for $250 with one mag all of last year, and recently they were $299 with a couple mags, but I'm not sure if they have any more.

I like the S&W 908 - its the "economy" version of the S&W3913. I got mine for $325 NIB quite a few years ago. Its solid, reliable and I've never had a problem with it (just like the S&W3913).
It uses an 8 shot magazine and is a whole lot nicer to carry than the chunky Ruger's P- or KP- handguns.

Any of the Bersa's I keep eyeballing their 22 it would make a great companion to my 380DLX. Also the Star BM is a VERY good value.

CZ 40B and 40P. They run about $300 each, which would leave $100 for ammo. :)

like lee N.Field said about all autoloaders being under $400.00.
If you know how to shop used, and if you can find CDNN deals new, most any popular autoloader can be had for under $400.00.
Korth, Sig 210, Desert Eagle, and Custom .45's are the exception to the rule.

Lots of people would consider the CZ100 a bad CZ. While I will allow that the trigger pull was horrendous, it was still accurate and reliable. It just wasn't any range fun, so I sold it. CZ75, 85 are excellent guns, but new, I've been seeing them just over $400, maybe $410 or $425. Not terribly outside the budger here.

Remington Rand 1911 for $45 out the door at a gun show. Of course that was in 1965 just before I got selected to go fight Godless communism and protect dominoes.
Heard the price has gone up so I guess timing is everything after all.

For plinking and cheap practice, my Ruger Mk II with iron sights; for cheating, my husband's stainless Mk II, with a bull barrel and a scope! (It's not really even shooting, more like poking holes in the target with a pencil).
For more serious shooting, the EAA Witness Compact in .38SA, Star BM (9 Para) or any of the carry guns below.
Carry: Star BKM (alloy frame!) or PD (also alloy, .45) for everyday. Star BKS with nickled slide, dove-grey anodized frame and walnut grips for formal events ;), or the delightful Star Super S (.380) if concealment is needed. ...The Star S is the least-expensive gun I've yet bought ($125, used and with a crummy magazine) and one of the best-shooting, despite insignificant sights. You boys might find it a bit too delicate, as it's a kind of slenderized "dollhouse edition" 1911, right down to the barrel bushing and recoil spring with a plug end and half-length guide rod. For me, it is the perfect compromise between small enough to conceal and big enough to shoot accurately.
Beater: Ballester-Molina! I think mine was used as a hammer (or maybe a tent peg) by the original owner. If I owned a truck, this would be the "truck gun."
All of those were bought for less than $400, most of them well under.
