A 50-year-old man opened fire with a gun after disturbing two intruders at his west Norfolk home.
It happened as an outbuilding was being broken into at the house in Walpole St Andrew early on Friday morning. The men escaped in a white van.

The shooting happened a few miles from the house where Tony Martin shot dead a young burglar wounding another.

Teams of police are searching the Fens looking for the burglars who may have shotgun wounds.

It remains unclear if either of the suspects were injured

Norfolk Police statement

Hospitals across the Fens have been contacted as part of Norfolk Police's enquiries.

The homeowner was alerted to the break-in when he was woken up at 0500 GMT by his dog barking.

In a statement Norfolk Police said: "During the episode a firearm was discharged by the occupier of the premises.

"It remains unclear if either of the suspects were injured and enquiries are continuing as to their whereabouts.

"Officers are presently investigating all of the circumstances behind this incident."

The first suspect is described as a white man, wearing a fawn coloured jacket and was of medium build.

Martin convicted

The second man was also white and wearing a dark coloured jacket. One of the suspects may have had a crow bar in his possession, police said.

Norfolk farmer Tony Martin was jailed in 1999 for killing 16-year-old burglar Fred Barras and wounding Brendan Fearon, 33, after confronting them at his isolated home at Emneth Hungate.

Mr Martin was initially convicted of murder and given a life sentence but this was reduced to manslaughter on appeal.

Friday's incident and the Fred Barras killing took place in the Marshland area of West Norfolk, where many residents have reported burglaries.

Sounds to me as though they need fewer "incidents" and more dead burglars.

Well the is one more man left in the UK that still has balls. He too will probably be neutered by their culture.

And to think that at one point the British Empire ruled 1/4 of the world. The combination of socialist dependency on the government by our citizens, defecit spending, and the eradication of the middle class will bring America down. Hopefully not in our lifetimes.

And who would have imagined at the beginning of the twentieth century, when Robert Gascoyne Cecil said that he would "... laud the day when there is a rifle in every cottage in England ...", that it would come to the current state of affairs in the Euro province formerly known as Great Britain.

I'd like to mail Mr Martin one of these Draganof sniper rifles that have been captured in Iraq; with a few boxes of rounds, a night vision scope and extra batteries for NV scope.

Mr Martin, I maybe an Irish lad and have a distain for the British, but keep up the good work.
