with the impending end of the year celebrations...a rant.:cuss:
i am pissed off at "my" people for keeping alive a long held tradition...:what:
it is the act of negligently discharging firearms into the air to ring in the New Year...:banghead:
i have seen it all, handguns, shotguns, machine guns...oooh, wee! it's senseless i tell ya.:(
i have witnessed this phenomenom since i was a kid....in the ranch and later when we moved to the city..
at first, it was in rural setting...so i guess it was quasi-safe...then i saw the same thing in the city...:barf: what the!!!! what happened to common-sense folks..:uhoh:
Back then i accepted it because it was the thing to do..i was young and didn't know any better...:o Now, :cuss: it makes my blood boil...:fire: please, mi gente, we got to do better than this...Whew!! thanks for letting me get it out of my chest...YMMV:rolleyes:

I have to agree - ''in-the-air'' discharge of live ammo is irresponsible.

I always do my bit to add to the sounds of New Year but - I use one of two options - either 7.62 blanks - of which I have plenty - or out back over a multi acres corn field - some shotgun blasts upwards are not gonna harm anyone - fallout of birdshot is into the huge field.

I am certainly against - shall we say - Middle Eastern traditions of AK rounds sent upwards - no way is that acceptable.

I enjoy the sounds - that is for sure and that tradition I wish to keep - but lead going up and coming down - who-knows-where - no thank you.;)

Hey, I guess living in California has its advantages.

I don't know about the OC, but here in LA county, there is a ban on ammunition sales in the week prior to New Year's Day, Cinco de Mayo, and the Fourth of July for just that reason.

I'm usually stocked up enough that it doesn't affect my weekly trips to the shooting range, but one time I was all out of .22lr and couldn't get any because of this rule. :(

Beetle - heck - well there is a wonderfully sensible ban.

Sheesh - as if the average shooter will not have a well adequate stash of ammo anyways! Geez.

Hey - I may be unobservant but - seems I ain't seen you here in a long time! Welcome back if appropriate :)

Thanks, P95Carry! I had a bit of a 6 month (or so) hiatus from THR in an effort to ignore the internet, but I'm also glad I'm back. I mostly lurk now. Like a single shot rifle, I try to make every post count and not comment unless I've sometime with at least some substance to say. Speaking of which. . .

I wish the local media would just spend some time educating people about using legal fireworks instead. Or even the availability of blank ammo. Or I dunno, maybe basic gun safety :uhoh: . But the local media never suggests responsible gun ownership, they only suggest no guns at all.

BB

P.S. Please don't tell anyone I actually got caught with "my pants down" during one of these "ammunition bans" with regards to the .22lr ammo :uhoh: .

I concur with the findings, as we DO NOT need to send any
uncontrollable lead into the air.:( As they say, "what goes up must
come down". Only problem with this is, when discharging a weapon
wildly into the air, NO ONE knows where the spent rounds may land.:uhoh:

I don't think LA county has an ammo ban at thias time, only LA city proper. Easily worked around by going to OC or to an area in LA county non in the city like Norwalk, Ceritos, ect.

As for New Years eve gun fire, I don't add to it but most of my neighbors seem too, sometimes they manage to shoot out a power line or two resulting in no eletricity for the next day! I've been tempted to load up a black powder gun with no projectile and shoot that but I don't for a lot of various reasons.
