Need help with .32 acp rim lock

My Walther PP experiences rim lock with the shorter hollow point ammo. Does anyone make hollow points that are close to the length of fmj's? It seems that most makers cater to the Seecamp and their hp's are really short.

I did a search and may of found the answer in the 380 vs 32 thread. Magtech 32 jhp is close to OAL of a fmj. I will try those. If anyone is wondering, rim lock is only happening in the spare mag I carry in my pocket. I thought I would test fire that mag after carrying it around a few days and got a shock when my pp locked up. I had to take the floor plate out to unjam the mag.

Those of us with Keltec P-32's are well familiar with the tendency to rimlock with short JHP ammo.

KT sells a spacer to prevent the rounds from moving forward and locking and you can also easily build one yourself.

The big question is 'Should you be using HP ammo in the .32 ACP'? Most of us believe that FMJ is the way to go in such a small caliber for self defense.

FMJ ammo like GECO or Fiocchi runs longer - no rim lock problems in mine.

I know Corbon is longer than Gold dots or Silvertips. Some of the trouble is carrying loaded mag loose in pocket. The jaring around in the pocket. Since it you 2nd mag I would load with ball . If your shooting has reached that far BG is likely behind something and you need penteration of ball. This is another reason I perfer my PPK/S in 380 over the 32

I just got a box of Privi Partizan 71gr JHP to try. It appeared longer than other JHPs I've tried in my P32. I found my normal RWS FMJ to be 24.9mm overall, and the Privi JHP to be 24.6mm. I'll run the box through later today.

Hi there,

The best way to prevent rimlock is take additional care in loading your magazine.

I had the same problem with my Kel Tec P-32. Solution, use care in making sure your ammo is loaded with the rim in front of the cartridge previously loaded.

If your magazine spring has the correct tension, it will prevent any rounds from "jumping" during recoil.

Carolina, I thought the same as you until I had some serious issues in my P32 with Hydra-Shoks and Gold Dots. I sat at the range loading clean mags (3 different) like I was doing brain surgery, and I still had lock problems, even after replacing mag springs. I firmly believe it is caused by the jostling of shorter JHP rounds. I changed over to FMJ only and have been 100% since.
The Privi Partizan JHPs just went through like ???? through a goose. They were pretty accurate too. Next opportunity I'll get 4 or 5 boxes.

Actually, my plan is to alternate fmj & hp's, that is why I am looking for something similar in length. This way I have penetration and painful wounding if the hp's expand. I am also looking ahead to my .32 guardian that is on the way.

Thanks for the info.

I had the same problem with my Kel Tec P-32.
Kel-Tec offers a rimlock preventer for $8.65 (1-800-515-9983) or you can make one that is even simpler to insert or remove called a Flyer Wire (KTRange.com).

Does anyone make hollow points that are close to the length of fmj's?
FMJ, Spacer, or handload your own HPs to the proper length. For the latter, Speer GoldDot 60gr bullets are long enough to facilitate this. Others, such as 60gr Hornady XTPs, are too short (though the 85gr ones are long enough).

I ordered some Magtech jhp and will see how they do when they arrive.

Johnnyc, where do you get Privi Partizan? I am not familiar with that company.

It's newly imported Yugoslav stuff. I just saw the JHP for the first time this Saturday.

My Magtech 32 hp's came in the mail today and I am very impressed by their performance. I posted the results on the Walther Forum for anyone who is interested.

Might as well save your money and use fmj. The magtech probably will not expand!

Look at the magtech jhp gelatin tests here______

The magtech did expand when shot through my grapefuit, but it was nothing spectacular. I would say they did about 50% expansion.
