Hi all,
This deals with Ordnance doing the "Interchangeability Test" Ok we know what a "lot" is that's 500 rifles. We also know that ten (10) M1 Garand Rifles were picked by the Inspectors. These rifles were disassembled. Components of each were placed together and mixed. Then from this group (10) ten rifles were then assembled. They were then tested to make sure that these rifles would operate and function properly. Here's the question, ie, quiz. What was the second part of the "Interchangeability Test" ? Hint it has nothing to do with firing.
Have fun
Thanks again
Clancy
PS I thing the answer will suprise you. It did suprise me

As usual, an interesting and challenging quiz, Clancy!
The Interchangeability test is very similar to Eli Whitney's appearance before Congress in 1790, when he disassembled 10 or 12 muskets, then randomly reassembled them and (somehow) demonstrated that they were all functional. This has been cited as the event that began the Industrial Revolution.
Maybe someone will add a few facts to this anecdote.
Oh, yes, the quiz; I'm working on it... :scrutiny:
I'll be getting back to you...

Hi all,
The FIRST interchangeability tests were between arrows and bows. hehe
That's good data.
Thanks again

Finding the missing pin and the missing spring? Take 10 rifles apart and you will, statistically, lose one pin and one spring. At least that seems to be my going rate.

Hi all,
The answer to the quiz about the interchangeability test is as follows:
"At least two of the above reassembled rifles, from which all components included as 'Spare Parts' in the list to be furnished by the contracting officer have been removed shall be assembled using components intended for use as spare parts."
I hope this data helps.
Thanks again
Clancy

That's a good one, Clancy, thank you! It looks like you stumped us again.
How about some questions about caliber, name of designer, ammunition capacity or a few other questions I can get at least 70% correct on?
Just kidding... even if we don't know the answer, we learn from the exercise. :)
