Yesterday I decided to reorganize my handguns and ammo and do a little house keeping. I got to thinking about which guns I truly treasure and use. Which ones I would never part with. I came up with four. All S&W's.
Number one would be an old 15-3. My first revolver and still the best. Picked it up used a few years ago for $200. I stopped at a fairly distant shop where I had never been before. I told the owner that I wanted to buy my first revolver. He led me immediately to the Model 15. He could have tried to sell me anything, but he said this would be a great place to start. My observation today is that it would not be a bad place to end up. Great shooter, great trigger and 100% reliable.
Number two is my daily carry gun. An old worn Model 36 without a number. Paid $150. I saw it in the case and it was plug ugly. Dirty and worn. Someone had put on some cheap plastic grips and actually broken off the top of the left grip to clear a speed loader. They had also ground off the hammer spur. This gun was carried a LOT and shot little. Extremely tight. Great trigger and accurate.
Number three is a 10-6. Almost as good as the 15. Also cost $200.
Finally a 6946 DAO. It came with four mags, Hogue grips and night sights. I can shoot this semi auto better then any other auto that I own. I paid a wopping $225 for it. A few weeks ago it started acting sluggish so I bought a $3 recoil spring from Numrich and it is back in business.
So as I looked at the thousands of dollars I have invested in other handguns I am amazed to say that those four, acquired for less then $1000 total, are the ones that I truly treasure. I have Glocks, Sigs, Berettas, Rugers and frankly I do not give a rats ass for any of them. They will all be sold or traded eventually, but the four mentioned above are here to stay. I am seriously considering just dumping most of my collection and using the proceeds for ammo and training.
I think my motto for 06 will be "shoot more, buy less"! LOL!
