Curious. I hear about primaries, and backups ... but how many have you actually carried at one time?
When I carry it's typically only one, and despite having spare mag and flashlight holders, it's usually the one gun with fully loaded magazine plus one in the chamber and no spare mag. But I have carried three concealed guns at once, just to see if it could be done.
How about you? It's got to be CCW in public, not just "around the house."

I'll carry a backup if I'm going to visit one of my friends that lives in a rough part of town, but otherwise hardly ever.

Three, but only to see how difficult it was to manuever, and only on a short trip to the store and back. I'm usually carrying just one.

FWIW. On duty I carry two. Usually concealed. Off duty I typically carry one with one reload and my folding knife.

Most of the time two, I spend a lot of time in a vehicle and the ankle is much eaiser to get to, when I'm upright the hip is the eaisest. Needless to say my full size 10mm does not fit my ankle very well, so a back-up was the solution.

Always one in the glove box
Usually one one my ankle for the reason Reed stated
Sometimes one on my hip when I'm not working.
About three years ago when I worked night shift in the worst part of town I planned all my bad accounts for the same night.
That night I carried five
One on my ankle, one in my right shirt pocket, one in my right pants pocket, one at 4:00 and one crossdraw, plus the one in the truck and a shotgun behind the seat.
My hands were usually full of vaeious pieces of equipment plu I had to unlock doors.
I would never be in a position where a gun was not within easy reach.
Don't laugh too hard a guy was robbed killed out side one of my accounts while I was inside.
Apparently within just minutes of me getting there

Seven, for a presentation on concealed carry. I was wearing a blue oxford cloth button-down shirt, Dockers, and a Orvis travel vest. I used a double shoulder rig, one each strong side, SOB, cross-draw, one in pocket, one on ankle. I didn't even clank, and I had room for more. have a few knives and some OC, too. Normally (?) Ijust have one pistol & reload, one knife.

One primary, one back up, one hide out. It was on a trip to New Orleans some years ago. Looking back on it, in light of Katrina's aftermath, I was prudent, not paranoid.... :D

In short, max. ever was 3 pistols: (2) 1911s and (1) G17, with somewhere just south of 800 rounds of ammo in mags.
But, the normal day for me: 2 pistols, and as much ammo as I can hide.
I got a very weird look from a local detective yesterday as I sat and talked with a friend (at the friend's cigar shop). Apparently the detective is anti-gun. Lest I come across as anti-cop, I'll leave it as his conduct was unbecoming a professional; as was his attitude about civilian carry.
I'll be comical the day a police pulls me over and wants to "disarm me"...that'll take some serious time. :)
Who knows, maybe someday concealed carry will become illegal; and open carry will be mandatory. :D
Yeah!

For about 4 hours, I carried 3 1911s, 1 Colt Pony, 1 Colt 1903, 6 spare 1911 mags and 2 spare Pony mags, all concealed.
Oh, and somewhere in there was an Emerson CQC7 knife, wallet, keys, pepper spray, and a cell phone.
It was for a class demonstration. I gave up after the belt was digging in to my hips painfully.
Nobody knew I had that many guns or spare mags on me even though I demonstrated several things, the last of which was what I was carrying.
Outside of such nonsense, no more than 2 guns and a knife on my person with various #s of mags.

I went to visit my kid in Austin. I wore a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, floppy outdoors canvas shirt over it and a light jacket as it was chilly.
Thus, I could carry a
G19 and two mags
A Surefire Executive - forgot the number
2 Delicas
A cell phone
A small FOX oc in one jacket pocket
a small BUG in the other jacket pocket.
No one noticed. It was not uncomfortable, I have quality holsters. I was accused of being a surburban ninja for this by someone on another board who claims to be a cop - probably Barney Fife with one bullet.
Can you go through life without a gun - yes, most of the time.
Can you win most DGUs with an unloaded gun - supposedly.
However, if you got it and it is not uncomfortable - why not! :D

Way back when I was a plainclothesed LEO on felony stakeout duty, I carried:
S&W M19 in Bianchi X-15 (with 2 charged speedloaders)
Colt Commander .45 in Safariland hip scabbard (with 2 charged mags)
S&W M36 Chief's Special in right front pocket (1 Speed strip in hip pocket)
NAA .22WMR mini (never mind where :D and no spare ammo)
Balisong knife in left hip pocket
Bucheimer blackjack in right hip pocket (alongside the Speed Strip)
2 sets of handcuffs
My partner was similarly armed, and we had an issue Ithaca M37 and a personally owned CAR 15 in the vehicle.
We both took pains to avoid deep bodies of water . . .:what:

Had occassion to spend an evening with several LEOs from downstate when my brother threw a Christmas party a while back.
We all got to talking, and wouldn't you know it, there was a guy (don't recall agency in NY) who pulled out the following...
G26 from an Alessi ankle rig, Taurus 85 in PCH Pocket Holster, G19 from a DeSantis Speed Scabbard, G26 from a crossdraw rig, 2 NAA Minis -- one around neck lanyard and the other in his offside boot, Shoulder rig held two more G19s and 4 spare mags, 2 double mag pouches on the belt, mini-light, cuffs, ASP, a tactical folder....
seems every year the guys have a contest to see who can carry the most hardware as unobtrusively as possible. This bozo wins every year.....
As for me, it has been three K-frames.... and only once. Other times, it has been a G19 and a G26. Most times it is just one and a few reloads.

I carry a .38 J-frame almost daily, depending upon the situation. Usually in a pants pocket holster or in my jacket pocket.
When I worked in Atlanta, I always carried when I went out on homcide calls. Usually it was a Titanium Taurus .38.
I never travel the highways without a gun in the car. Sometimes its a .38 K frame, but I have carried .357 K-frames and a Ruger Blackhawk .357 as my car guns, too. I also had a Makarov as a car gun for awhile.
My first car gun was a .32 S&W J-frame w/3" barrel. Not much, but it was all I had at the time. It was very accurate even if it was weak. I actually thwarted my own car-jacking with that gun. They didn't expect me to pull out a gun and point it in their face. But when it came out, they knew I would use it. (I drove home just fine). I also carried that gun a few times when I was in bad parts of town.
I'm picking up a Ruger Redhawk later this week. In addition to hunting duty, it will be my car gun, too (stoked w/.44 specials for social work).

I've never given an ankle rig a try; will have to. I suppose I could get used to carrying more than one, and the idea of an ankle rig being easier to get to than, say an IWB, when seated or in a vehicle makes a lot of sense.

I've carried on the ankle for many years. It's slow as hell to get at, but it's always there. After a while, you forget that you're even carrying.

I carry ONE gun, and (possibly) one reload.
I keep the gun positioned on me so that I can access it under any condition.
I just don't see the point to multiple guns. Carrying one is a big responsibility. I think more than one would open yourself up to some rather heavy legal liabilities (especially civil ones) should you ever need to use even ONE of those weapons.
YMMV.

The most I've ever had on my person and concealed was 2. I usually carry one and at least one extra mag. The most I've ever had in close proximity and /or on my person ready to go was 4. One on me, one in my fanny pack laying on my passenger seat, one in the console in between the front seats, and one in my "range bag" on the floor.

Next spring could get interesting - given all the nonsense with the hurricanes I am serioulsy thinking of getting an AK-47 (seni - not full version) for the summer.
If nothing else, it could make for several fun days at the range....

I *always" have a .45 on my hip with spare ammo on the off-side and I usually have a back-up, too. But, many moons ago, when the area in which I lived/worked was in the midst of racial rioting, for several days I carried a LW Commander in a Sparks RoadRunner (with two spare mags), a S&W M38 in a Renegade ankle holster (with a Speed Strip in the pocket), a .380 Back-Up in a pocket holster and a Browning Hi-Power in a Bianchi X-15 shoulder rig (with a spare mag in an accessory pouch I'd sewn on the off-side strap)... plus, a S&W M669 with 20-round magazine and a 12 gauge Mossberg riot gun in the car. (I was certainly glad when things quieted down and I could revert to carrying "only" two... and am sincerely grateful I didn't fall into a pond while loaded down with all that weight!) I have carried more for demonstration purposes during a CHL class, but that's the most I've ever carried on a "real world " day.

No argument here, and given a choice, I'd rather carry my G23 in my Hellweg Paddle Speed Holster, but usually, due to my lifestyle which dictates the way I dress, my Taurus 450 in an ankle holster is the only mode of carry that guarantees I'll always have a gun with me.

Just out and about around town off duty one on the hip (G23)
Road trip the G23 on the hip and a S&W 342 on the left inside ankle.
In the office, where I am at most of the time,a G23 on the hip and another S&W 342 in the top right desk drawer.
Another ankle holster in the desk incase I'm going out on something with the shift on duty to put the 342 in and strap on.

I always carry. Usually it's the BHP with two spare mags on the weak side. When the mood strikes me, I will complement that with a 1911 as my BUG (That is, until I can get my NAA fixed.)
The most I have carried was the same setup as above, but with a NAA minimag in the back pocket as well.

Well, since starting this thread, I've been experimenting with ankle carry. I see the debate between Biker and JMusic. Ankle wouldn't be my preferred carry method, but work and dress often preclude IWB. I've been carrying either a Kahr P9 or Kel-Tec P11 in a DeSantis Apache rig with some success. So now I'm routinely carrying two: a Kel-Tec P32 in a pocket holster and a 9mm on the ankle. The .32 is much faster on the draw, but the 9mm is there if needed and I have a couple extra seconds.

When I carry it's typically only one, and despite having spare mag and flashlight holders, it's usually the one gun with fully loaded magazine plus one in the chamber and no spare mag. But I have carried three concealed guns at once, just to see if it could be done.
How about you? It's got to be CCW in public, not just "around the house."I used to carry at least two guns, my primary and my secondary, which I called my "always gun." Now I just carry my primary, which at the moment is a full sized, full weight 1911 style .45 ACP. When I used to carry two guns, I would occasionally throw in a third, which was my little North American Arms .22 lr mini-revolver. Number two was a little .32 ACP auto pistol by Kel Tec. My .45 has a mag that holds eight rounds. I find magazine holsters uncomfortable, so don't carry an extra mag. In the old days, people carried a black powder six gun with only five chambers charged and felt pretty well protected from ordinary victimization attempts. I feel pretty well armed with eight rounds of .45 ACP on tap. I figure I can put at least four people down with that, and as many as eight. If I'm a really bad shot under stress, I figure I can put at least two people down with eight rounds. Realistically, though, how often will you win a gun fight against three armed attackers anyway? Not that I wouldn't give it my best shot.
