I've been using a 26" Model 70 .300 Win Mag for mule deer the last 5 or 6 years.
I like Alliants Re22 (77 grains) behind a 165 grain Speer Grand Slam. That's a maximum charge according to my Speer manual, so work up slowly. It's fast, flat and very accurate from my rifle. It sure has the potential of ruining a lot of meat though if I goof up and don't place the bullet well. I ruined the off-side shoulder of the nice 3X4 buck I shot this year.

If its a way out there shot, I use 190gn match kings and H1000. Otherwise, I got a good deal on 5# jugs of IMR3031, and use that for everything from .222 up to the 300, sorry, I do not have load data in front of me and would hate to blow you up based on and "I think it was 78.3 gn of Bullseye and a 220 gn bullet" type of response.

Well, when you find him, pull the bullets and reload the brass, I'm sure he did not get a chance to fire more than one. no sense in wasting brass.

I shoot a Sauer 202 Deluxe in 300 Win Mag with a 26" barrel. Far and away, the best combination for this gun has been a full case of Hodgdon Retumbo and Speer or Sierra 200 grain bullets (no crimp groove). The 220 grain Nosler semi spitzers are a cut above everything else I have tried in the heavyweight category. On the lightweight side I like Nosler 180 grain ballistic tips with the same powder. All loads use the Winchester large rifle magnum primer.

You can use Bullseye in 300WM to form cases and for wimpy loads, but the powder charges must be very low.

29.3 gr Bullseye, 150 gr Sierra SPBT 2125, 26" barrel, 2566 fps, 54652 psi

I prefer to use IMR4895 or IMR4350 or RL22 and get the velocity up to 3,300 fps

Bogie, I have a Win M70 in .300 WM and I think you are 'spot on' with the IMR 4350 powder. I use it with mag primers and Nosler BT bullets. My gun loves these loads (as far as accuracy goes) and the 'end results' have been superb. I use 150 grain BT's for smallish whitetails and they WORK.

BTW, regular primers 'seemed' to work well with the load, but when I stepped up to the mag primers, the groups tightened up a LOT. Apparantly, the regular primers were not CONSISTNATLY setting off all that 4350 as they should.

Give the 4350 and BT's a try and see how your gun likes them. Good luck with the load and best wishes hunting.
