Who has used Portuguese ammo in an M1A and what are your opinions? What is the best surplus ammo to shoot in my new M1A?
Thanks,
Jim Hall

I bought Port NATO 7.62 from AIM and have found it to be good, reliable ammo for my L1A1.
For me, it has been clean and consistent. It is used with the gas port set to the same setting for American NATO ammo and it functions beautifully.

Been picking up a pack here and there but just got a full case from AIM on sale.
Very clean and accurate, no problems. No complaints (especially for the price!)

My M1A loves the Port. The only issue is that it has a steel core which may be a no-no at some ranges where wildfires are a concern (Southern California) because they can kick off sparks.

Check out this thread (http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=593997#post593997) over at Falfiles for some interesting data.
I shot some in msnyder's rifle two weeks ago, a G3 or CETME, I can't tell them apart, I was with him when he misfired.
Hope this helps.

The best ammo is what works in your rifle . Mine likes Port, southAfrican or M852 . Hirtenburger is good if ya can find it . I'm into my third or fourth case of SouthAfrican and I'm glad I bought it . When you find what works , a home equity loan is a good thing to use to remodel your basement with ammo cases:D

Thanks for asking the question ... I saw some the other day (.308) and have been meaning to ask the same. :p

The only ammo I have had a problem with was South African in an FAL. The brass seems soft and I had to polish the chamber to get it to extract.

Thanks for all of the responses. I knew I could count on the folks at THR for an honest view on the subject.
I just bought this gun at the Tulsa Gun Show this weekend and I am anxious to put some rounds down range. If you guys have any advice about this new gun, I am open for suggestions and comments. Is there anything I need to keep in mind? Thanks again.
Good Shooting,

I am on my second case of the Portuguese NATO ammo. I have only good things to say about it.
I find it to be affordable, accurate, and reliable.
