Optics problem

I was given a scope the other day, a Simmons 3x9. Nothing special, but good enough to put on an ole .22 that I've lying around for awhile. I put it on...no problems. But the intresting part began when I started bore sighting the scope. The adjustments react the opposite of what they should, i.e. when I turn the adjustment to go up...it goes down. Same thing with left and right.

What would cause a scope to do this? And is there any way of correcting it? Or do I have one of those rare "left-handed" scopes? :what:

Thanks

Sounds like a software problem, rather than hardware ;) :

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are boresighting right? So you are adjusting the scope to meet the line of the bore. Now, if the scope is aligned above the line of the bore you need to adjust the scope elevation in the direction marked "up" in order for the crosshairs to come down to the bore axis.

The reason is simple, in that as far as the scope is concerned when you adjust the dial in the "up" direction you are bringing the line of the bore up towards the axis of the scope, but because the line of the bore is fixed this appears to you as the crosshairs moving down.

The same applies to left and right. HTH:)
