Which of these two 1911's would you get?

I'm having a real hard time deciding which 1911 I want to purchase for my first one. As some of you read in a previous post, my awesome girlfriend is buying me a gun for Christmas. I *think* I've narrowed it down to two models: the Sig GSR Revolution with a Nitron finish and no tactical rail, and a Springfield Armory Tactical Combat in black stainless or possibly parkerized. The Sig costs more *I think*, I see them going for around $800-$900. I haven't been able to find too many of the SA's. The thing I like about the Sig is it seems like you get alot of gun for the money, Novak sites, no MIM parts, etc. plus the Sig name which I have alot of trust in. The thing I like about the SA is the warranty.

If it was up to you, what would you get?

Well, I had my choice down to two 1911s up until this Sat - Itw as either gonna be the Sig Revolution w/o a rail, or the S&W 1911 DK (the cheaper one, about $899).

The Sig doesn't have a mag well, and the S&W has black sights. So, I was gonna have to do a change on either. This past Sat, I found a Springfield TRP w/ Armory Kote for $200 less at the local shop. It's a $1200 gun, but had been at the shop for almost a year, so he discounted it. I jumped on that, and it has everything on it.

Now, had this not occurred, on Sunday, someone made a post on the Sig forum stating that they were having a galling problem on their new Sig Revolution. After reading that, and the last debacle SIg had with their 1st foray into 1911s, I would have picked the S&W 1911. The Sig does have a lot for the money, but I don't need another problem gun.

I think any of the Springfield's are good guns. I like a magwell and chckering, though. I also do not like the black stainless. It doesn't look like a very durable finish - I have handled 2, and there were little black flakes in my hand for both of them. If I were to get a loaded Springfield, I'd probably just get a regular stainless.

But, for the money, I'd get the S&W Dk and then just later change the sights...

Which one?

Both of them. :D

Honestly, it depends on the purpose. Between those, I would go with the Springfield- easier to find holsters that fit. Had you been looking at the Sig with the rail, then I would go in that direction for home defense, but without that rail, I just don't see the point in going for a gun that will be more difficult to purchase accessories for.

The Springfield parkerized would be the safe bet IMO.

Of those two options I'd go for the Springer...

Springfield Armory, hands-down. SA has been making 1911s much longer than SIG has; that fact aside, SA has terrific (and fast) factory customer service if you have a problem (hopefully, not likely). I feel I've gotten tremendous value from my Mil-Specs and Loadeds ...

Plus, the Springers just plain look better than the chunky SIG version ...

SIG has had some trouble with their 1911s. I'm a springfield fan myself though, so I'm biased.

Hi there,

This would have made a neat poll.

I like the SA and have previously owned 2 full size models and recently bought the Champion Model for concealed carry.

I own two SA 1911s (a Custom Loaded in SS and a plain Jane GI), and I have nothing but good things to say about both of them......OK, the GI gave me a few problems in the first few clips, but after that it turned into a real shooter.

I have shot Kimber, Para Ordinance, Colt, Ed Brown and STI, but for the money the SAs are my my first pick.

Hi Joey

Are you referrring to the Tactical Combat as the Loaded model? I'm assuming so since you mentioned the black stainless model.

IMO, SIG has marketed their GSR right out of the 1911 market, placing it in the territory of semi-custom 1911s. IMO, the GSR should have been marketed towards the reguar production 1911s, with the SA, Kimber, and Colt.

Between the two, I vote for the Springfield Loaded, or Springfield in general. I haven't been all too impressed with the SIG GSR's that I've seen. But I have to admit that I have yet to shoot the GSR. And I'm saying this even though I LOVE SIG's.

In the end, I'd trust the Springfield over the SIG. Good luck

I've owned and carried many a Springer 1911 over the years up to and including a TRP Operator. While they were almost all fine to very nice pistols, I wouldn't trade my new Revolution to have any of them back! The Revolution has a ton of features, a near custom 1911 fit and feel, and uses no MIM parts. The only Springer I had that came close was the Operator, and it had MIM parts and cost $300 more. If you take a good look at the new Sig, and it is anywhere near as nice as mine, you'll be buying it, trust me. Good luck.

SIG GSR
pretty gun, and it's all about pretty (I got my wife one for anniversary, all I got was a tie :scrutiny: )
The springfields just haven't impressed me. You pick up one of those, and a Kimber in the other hand and the SA just doesn't feel there.
I dunno, don't actually own a SA, but it just feels "loose"
but maybe that's just me
SIG has awesome customer service if something is wrong.

I will have to give my vote for the Springfield. Good guns, good warranty and customer service.

I may be odd in this, but I prefer a gun that's a little loose; for the reason that I see more feeding issues and such with the super-tight guns. Give me a gun with an good barrel to slide lock-up and I will be happy. Tight slide to frame fit is nice, but just don't make it so tight that the gun will run in to problems. I'm not saying all that the GSR's are unreliable however, as they seem to be good guns as well.

Buy the Colt.

Oh, wait... that's not an option, is it?

:o

Buy the Colt, anyway... :D

Ok, if I gotta... the Springer...

Definitely the springfield, I dislike Sig 1911's very much.. everyone I've tried have been very finicky.

But Sig's P22X series on the other hand, I love quite a lot.

Buy the SA but look around for a clean used one
I picked mine up for 650 with only 36 rounds down the barrel

The 1911s that I used to own I had no problem with were the Springfields. I had a Colt Commander and a Kimber that both had problems. Based on that, I'd say go with the SA. However Sigs are very good, I can't see their 1911 being too shabby. If price came into play, I'd not feel bad at all going with a SA.

As soon as you want to carry it, the rail will become a nuisance for limiting holster options. Are there good ones out there? Yes, but fewer options than non-gussied up options.

Springfield. Uses all standard 1911 components, can be upgraded or repaired if desired/necessary down the road, a gazillion options available for it if you ever get tired of it, can be accurized easily again if you ever shoot it enough to ruin accuracy.

Shoot one and I think you just might go the other way on this (maybe not)
I really like em

I agree with Paul45 I wouldn't buy either. I would go with a Para SSP. More usuable features like their new power extactor and the ramped barrel. Best warranty in the business and a heck of a shooter out of the box. Two I have were anyway.

Look at them all get dizzy and buy what you like.

Well if I was offered to shoot one I'd definitely jump on the opportunity!

Its just that for some reason, I didn't get excited about the GSR line when they first came out, and I never got the "urge" to buy one, even if it was a SIG.

I've held a few though, for the price I feel there are better options out there. I love options :D
