I have seen ads in cdnn for Stey 9mm for $299.00. I have read lots of great reviews about this weapon but don't understand why it never caught on. It was developed by Steyr and an Austrian Customs Agent Willy Bubits ( i think that is how his name is spelled.) I have checked on several holster maker websites and not found any holsters made for this gun. Why is this gun being by passed by the shooting community.

I think once Steyr gets their collective act together, you might see a pickup in popularity. Lots of people I talked to were interested in them, but didn't want to buy b/c of Steyrs manufacturing (they lost their manufacturing facility and had to set up shop elsewhere) and the fact that they've been having parts supply and importer problems. Compounding the problem is Steyr is now making a redesigned version of this gun. Discontinued gun models many times have a hard time selling.
As far as holsters goes, there's a few out there. Any custom maker should be able to make leather for this gun, no problem (other than the premium this sort of craftsman usually gets). Also, Blade-tec made an IWB for me. Fits both my M9 and S9.
Another maker that comes to mind is www.highnoonholsters.com. They have several models available for this gun. They make an excellent product for a decent price also. Also, www.fist-inc.com.

Well, it's not really being passed up by the shooting community, it's just flying under the radar.
Hang out here for a while.

I don't understand the un-popularity either. It's a great design and a screaming deal from CDNN if they have any left. I picked one up just out of curiosity from CDNN and it turned into a "keeper". It fits my G19 IWB holster. It is a fun shooting 9mm with great ergo design and quick trigger reset. I actually like the manual safety located in the trigger job. The newer designed guns don't have this safety.

Steyr suffered from a poor marketing campaign and a poor choice of US partners. Their original US distributor went bankrupt, which is why you can get such a good deal at CDNN!
The new US office is almost up and running. Interestingly, it's in Georgia not far from the Glock plant in Smyrna. They'll be stocked soon with replacement parts and Steyr-trained armorers.
There are a lot of offerings out there for holsters...you just have to find them. Use the resources on the Steyr Club site -- everything you ever wanted to know about Steyrs. We even get some officials from Steyr in Austria who participate. Some of our moderators have been in contact with the HQ by phone on a pretty regular basis, too.
I love my Steyr M9. Sometimes it sits in the safe for a while and I get a crazy notion about selling it. But as soon as I pull it out, I'm reminded why I love it and I'll never get rid of it. It's a great gun and the support is out there. If you don't have one, go ahead and spend the money. You won't be disappointed!
